In the first-year learning community, Terrascope (http://mitadmissions.org/pages/first-year-learning-communities?utm_source=Newsletter+Mailing+List+2018&utm_campaign=03e8a4be49-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_15_05_30&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e8c603942d-03e8a4be49-296414913#terrascope) , students are tasked with creating solutions to a sustainability-related real-world problem. This year's mission will address access to clean drinking water in the Navajo Nation. Once they develop a comprehensive plan during the fall semester, students will get to explore that topic in the field during a spring break trip. ** Incoming Dynamic Duo
------------------------------------------------------------
Incoming first-year students Malik and Miles George are a dynamic duo (http://news.mit.edu/2018/dynamic-duo-malik-miles-george-attend-mit-0703?utm_source=Newsletter+Mailing+List+2018&utm_campaign=03e8a4be49-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_15_05_30&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e8c603942d-03e8a4be49-296414913) from Woodbridge, New Jersey. The twins share a lot of likes: doubles tennis, quiz bowl, a passion for genetics—and they were co-valedictorians! This fall they will begin a new shared experience: attending MIT, their "dream" school.

** An Essay Writing Journey
------------------------------------------------------------
To the rising seniors starting to brainstorm about college essays: The writing process can be hard, but it can also be an insightful journey. Our student blogger Nisha D. went through a lot of writing, rewriting, deleting, and revising before she was happy with the essays she submitted for the MIT application. She shares her revision history (http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/on-writing?utm_source=Newsletter+Mailing+List+2018&utm_campaign=03e8a4be49-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_15_05_30&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e8c603942d-03e8a4be49-296414913) for one of them, complete with time stamps.
