** “If there's anything I've learned at MIT, and especially from this project, it's that the only thing ever standing in our way is fear—fear of failure.”
------------------------------------------------------------
Since her sophomore year, our student blogger Selam G. '18 has been busy working on designing and building a longer lasting water source for Muti, a town in Ethiopia in her father's home province, Kafa, where some of her relatives still live. Finally, against many odds—logistics, weather, funding, politics—the well is finished (http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/the-muti-water-project?utm_source=Newsletter+Mailing+List+2018&utm_campaign=8aed32b920-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e8c603942d-8aed32b920-296414913) . Great job, Selam!

** Take an MITx Philosophy Class This Summer
------------------------------------------------------------
What is knowledge and how do we get it? Do we have free will? This summer you can ponder these questions in MIT's online introductory philosophy course, starting June 20. Students who enroll as verified learners will receive grades and feedback from a professional philosopher and will be eligible for the MITx High School Philosophy Award. In addition, award winners will be profiled on MIT's philosophy website. Learn more and enroll (https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-to-philosophy-god-knowledge-and-consciousness?utm_source=Newsletter+Mailing+List+2018&utm_campaign=8aed32b920-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e8c603942d-8aed32b920-296414913) .

** Taking a Break to Make
------------------------------------------------------------
Steel welding, chocolatiering, 3-D scanning, jewelry making—these were just some of the fun crafts that students enjoyed during Maker Break (http://news.mit.edu/2018/maker-break-celebration-of-making-at-mit-0504?utm_source=Newsletter+Mailing+List+2018&utm_campaign=8aed32b920-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e8c603942d-8aed32b920-296414913) , the first annual celebration of making at MIT. ** Important Test Info for Prospective Applicants
------------------------------------------------------------
If you're planning to apply to MIT for entry in the fall of 2019, it's time to start thinking about when you want to take the standardized tests (http://mitadmissions.org/apply/freshman/tests?utm_source=Newsletter+Mailing+List+2018&utm_campaign=8aed32b920-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e8c603942d-8aed32b920-296414913) . We require the SAT or ACT or TOEFL, as well as two SAT Subject Tests: one in math (level 1 or 2) and one in science (physics, chemistry or biology e/m).

Keep in mind that MIT has two application cycles (http://mitadmissions.org/apply/freshman/cycles?utm_source=Newsletter+Mailing+List+2018&utm_campaign=8aed32b920-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e8c603942d-8aed32b920-296414913) : Early Action (EA) and Regular Action (RA). For EA, the last chance to take the standardized tests is the November test date. For RA, it's the December test date.

Our website (http://mitadmissions.org/apply/freshman/dates?utm_source=Newsletter+Mailing+List+2018&utm_campaign=8aed32b920-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e8c603942d-8aed32b920-296414913) lists all of our deadlines. Check it out for a helpful timeline of our application process.
