I have an enormous amount of respect for Mr Poggioli.  If he thinks that she is not ready for the course, then there is reason to listen to him.  The only thing you need to ask is about his views and how he has come to whatever conclusions he has come to.

Thanks Lisa.

A head up of what it is going on:

1)            We had 3 days ago a meeting with the counsellor, following a chat that Anna had initiate with her. General concerns about her being stressed and support to her recent ADHD diagnosis.

2)            Had meeting with Jack Phillips, same topic. Plus our concern about how the school has handled until now her K2-12 curriculum. I attach for you my notes for my self (with age I need to write down what I want to discuss:). This gives you a good idea of some of the topics we have been discussing. I also attach a chart we gave to Jack, showing how Anna progressed (or not) from K2 to G10.

After this

3)            Jack has asked us again to see him but we both had no time yet

4)            Mr Basu according to Anna has told her she can choose the Math course she prefers next year

5)            Mr Poggioli yesterday had a chat with Anna, mentioning (still according to Anna) that she is not ready for his class next year

6)            I am going to see Mr Poggioli at P1 in 45’. He solicited this meeting this morning.

7)            Anna is totally, at least, confused. She is thinking to drop THIS WEEK from Mr Basu class, claiming that the all point of having endured the Math ordeal in the past 2 years was for the sake to get to Mr Poggioli class. If this is not happening, she can downgrade herself already.

She is saying a lot of other things and this is where I need your experience of the academic system in order to put a bit under control this mess.

Talking about experience, I should ask to Mr Poggioli something specific when I meet him shortly?

Of course I have some ideas/opinion and definitely Anna has more, but I would like you to get this email ASAP in case you have inputs for my meeting with Mr Poggioli shortly.

Thanks

See you later.

The school is going to want to see more than the summary that was attached. I presume they will want to see all the testing the underlies the diagnosis.

Indeed, the school can decide whether or not to give her accommodations, but they tend to agree without much of a fight. Before she can get accommodations with The College Board, the school needs to be giving her the same accommodations for three months.

I would be surprised if they gave you trouble on this, but there will be some moments of waiting while the committee that tends to these things meets and makes a decision.

Hi Lisa,

Please, see below Anna’s psychiatrist report.

We will wait for your comments, in case you have some more, before to forward it to the school.

We suppose that we should send it to the LSD department, correct?

Also on the ASL website I read that the final decision about accommodation it is really up to the school. Apparently there is a 4 months period after the diagnosis in which the school wants to “ monitor” the situation before to request accommodation. Do you know if this is applicable in our case? Considering also that we gave already to ASL the US doctor diagnosis for ADHD in August 2017.

Thanks Lisa for helping us to navigate the process.

Best

Antonella
