Hi all,

Thank you for coaching juniors on Sunday.

We will hold a 2 minute silence at 11am. If you are coaching the 10am or 10.30am sessions, please make sure you gather your groups in a few minutes before 11am to be ready.

I’ll be there for the 10am session and then heading off for matches.

MOUTH GUARDS
If a player does not have a mouth guard, they should not take part in any stick and ball activity. Please send them to me and I will call their parents. If I’m not there, they can assist the coaches but cannot play with a stick and ball.

Please see below and attached:
- Kit
- Coaching groups
- Aims & Objectives of the session, format and plan (activities attached)
- Health & Safety
- Safeguarding

KIT
Each age group has a labelled kit bag with balls, bibs, cones, First Aid kit (in side pocket). Please collect your allocated kit bag from the shelves in the container.

PLEASE get your groups to collect in all of the balls, cones and bibs. What you put back in is exactly what you have for next week, so keep those balls close!

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

  1. Fun!! Players (and you!) should enjoy the session.
  2. Training should look something like the game.
  3. Lots of touches of the ball.

FORMAT & PLAN
Please divide your group into 2 or 3 teams, depending on player and coach numbers. Advanced (Blues) players will be indicated on the register; they should be one group. You can then mix intermediate and beginner players.

You can either stick with the same team and run several activities with them, or have each coach run a different activity with the teams rotating between you.

HEALTH & SAFETY
INJURY
Please see below for a reminder of our First Aid policy.
We must ensure parents are informed of any injuries.
Please report all injuries to me to log in the Incident Report Book so that I can follow up.

BEHAVIOUR
- You should not put up with bad behaviour in your sessions. This includes children being disruptive, rude or dangerous.
- If you have any behaviour issues, please report them to me immediately. I will manage the situation as best I can at the time and then escalate to a parent.
- If you can’t leave your group, please send two responsible players to get me.

FIRST AID POLICY

  * Prevent! Please check that all players have mouthguards and shin pads. (We have spare shin pads and reception sell mouthguards for £10). Ask them, don’t just assume they are wearing them. I guarantee that when you ask, several players will run off to their bags to actually put them in/on. If you see dangerous play - lifting of the stick, swinging dangerously - you must stop play immediately and address the whole group. Particularly for younger players, safe use of their stick must be drilled into them.
  * Assess - How serious is the incident? Ask the player what happened, where they were hit, what hurts.
  * Address - If the player needs a plaster, ice spray or ice pack, you have sufficient First Aid kit in your team kit bag, if you are comfortable dealing with this level of injury. For anything more, please take them to Pad Rec reception. An ice pack should only be used to prevent swelling, don’t just dish out ice packs for all knocks; ice spray should be used for minor knocks.
  * Escalate - Please ensure that the parent is informed. If they are not there at the time of the incident, please ensure that you tell them when the injured player is collected. Please also report the incident to me so it can be logged and escalated if necessary.

SAFEGUARDING
The safety and welfare of young people is of paramount importance. I am the club Welfare Officer; if you have any concerns or questions about safeguarding and protecting young people, please report to me.

If anyone has any questions, please shout! Look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday :)

Many thanks,
Alex
