Dear ASL parents and students,

As you may know, there is a London-based climate change protest planned for
this coming Friday, 12 April. This protest is a follow up to the events
that were held in February and March, and future protests have also been
scheduled. As I mentioned in my March letter to you regarding the climate
change event last month, these protests are not ASL-sanctioned events, and
the School cannot provide chaperones, security or transportation.

Our high school’s philosophy is to support student activism and to respect
students’ opportunity to organize. That being said, protesting can
sometimes involve a trade-off or an associated cost. Following from
feedback from students and faculty, and in contrast to the absences due to
the prior protest in March, student absences will be counted as unexcused, and
these absences will count towards the total number of absences permitted by
the high school’s absence policy (six class periods in a semester-long
course and 12 class periods in a yearlong course).

Please feel free to reach out to me should you have any questions or
concerns.

Sincerely,

Devan Ganeshananthan

HS Principal
