LOCAL TIERS: As of today, Wednesday 2 December, Westminster – along with the rest of London – has moved to Tier 2 (high alert). Read the full guidance here (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/local-restriction-tiers-what-you-need-to-know?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=3ea1727963-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-3ea1727963-40059651#high-alert) .

* Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds regularly, use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
* Wear a face covering when in enclosed spaces.
* Keep your distance by staying at least two metres apart – or one metre with a face covering or other precautions.

SHOP SAFELY: As the shops re-open today a range of measures have been introduced in the West End that strike a balance between COVID-19 security and creating a festive atmosphere – allowing shoppers to do their Christmas shopping safely and enjoyably.
Hand sanitising stations, widened pavements, social distancing signage, as well one-way systems, compulsory face masks in shops and protector screens by the tills will allow shoppers to enjoy the sights and shop safely this December.
As part of our shop safe campaign we’ve created an advent calendar for the 24 days running up to Christmas which, each day, will feature a different Christmas incentive, activity or offer available in the West End. Watch the short video above to reveal today's treat! TRAFALGAR TREE SWITCH ON: Tomorrow sees the world-famous Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree turn on its lights for the festive season (2019's tree pictured above). There will be no live event and crowds this year but you can join the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Jonathan Glanz, from 6pm on Thursday for a virtual ceremony, streamed via our YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/WestminsterCityCouncil?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=3ea1727963-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-3ea1727963-40059651) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CityWestminster/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=3ea1727963-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-3ea1727963-40059651) channels.

WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR? 2020 has been a challenging year for us all across Westminster and, while this festive period may feel quite different, we want to hear what you have been grateful for this year – whether it’s your family, support from friends or neighbours, or even just visiting your local shops or parks. In the above video, Westminster resident Millie tells us about her support network.
Send us a picture, note or video stating what you are grateful for via Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, tagging @CityWestminster and using the hashtag #grateful #westminster. Or you can email us at communications at westminster.gov.uk (mailto:communications at westminster.gov.uk) .

NICE RECYCLERS LIST: Santa has been in touch with the council and Veolia to find out which children living in Westminster have been recycling correctly this year, so he can put their names on the #NiceRecyclersList. To ensure no one is missed, children are invited to write a letter to Santa to tell him about their recycling deeds for the year. Simply tweet a picture of your child’s letter to @CityWestminster (https://twitter.com/CityWestminster?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=3ea1727963-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-3ea1727963-40059651) and @VeoliaUK (https://twitter.com/VeoliaUK?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=3ea1727963-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-3ea1727963-40059651) by 11 December including the hashtag #NiceRecyclersList. The top letters will be published in a local newspaper or newsletter.
