ECCLESTON YARDS MURAL: Last week Rachael Robathan, Leader of Westminster City Council, and Cllr Matthew Green, Cabinet Member for Business and Planning, visited a newly unveiled mural in Belgravia’s Eccleston Yards (https://mayfairandbelgravia.com/eccleston-yards?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=376b17148a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-376b17148a-40059651) . Painted by local artist Fiona Hunter, the ‘Thank You’ mural is a tribute to local key workers and community leaders (pictured above) for their sacrifices during the lockdown period and is now on display amongst the variety of local shops, restaurants, and cafes that have safely reopened in the area.
FINAL WEEK TO APPLY FOR FUNDING: With just five days left to apply for The City of Westminster Charitable Trust Community Contribution Fund, applications from local voluntary and community organisations, registered charities, social enterprises, schools and not-for-profit companies are welcome.

OLD MARYLEBONE TOWN HALL RE-OPENS FOR CEREMONIES: With lockdown restrictions easing, many couples are now once again saying “I do”, as wedding and civil partnership ceremonies go ahead. Since Saturday 4 July, registrars at Old Marylebone Town Hall in Westminster have officiated more than 80 ceremonies.

Alison Cathcart, Registration Service Business Development Manager at Westminster City Council, and the team of registrars had to postpone or cancel many weddings while restrictions were in place. Now, couples who wish to have a small group of their nearest and dearest attend their ceremony can be assured that staff have done everything required to ensure their special day will take place in a safe way.

Cllr Paul Swaddle, Westminster City Cabinet Member for Community Services and Digital, said: “It’s been a joy to see weddings and civil partnership ceremonies take place once again. It’s also fantastic to find out many people who may not have originally opted for an intimate ceremony have ended up having a better day than they ever imagined. I wish all the couples who have been officiated by our Westminster registrars the best of luck in their marriage or civil partnership.”

>From Saturday 1st August, up to 30 people can attend a reception. MARKING THE END OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR: With the summer holidays now upon us, we want to thank teachers, students and parents for their support in what has been a disrupted and strange end to the academic year. We hope you are now all having a lovely and relaxing break and we look forward to seeing you in September.

One parent in Westminster, Sally Jacob, took to Twitter to say a big thank you to teachers at All Souls Primary School (https://twitter.com/CityWestminster/status/1286255199661830144?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=376b17148a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-376b17148a-40059651) for their hard work and dedication over the last term to support her daughter’s return to school.

As the city continues to re-open, wearing something that covers your mouth and nose is now required in shops, supermarkets, shopping centres, banks, building societies, post offices, takeaways and transport hubs – in addition to public transport and hospitals where they are already required. To help contain the further spread of coronavirus, you are also strongly encouraged to wear face coverings in other enclosed public spaces where social distancing is difficult and you come into contact with people you do not normally meet.

Government updates
SPAIN QUARANTINE: The UK Government has imposed a 14-day quarantine on people arriving from Spain. The new coronavirus travel rule was announced over the weekend following a recent spike in the number of cases in Spain. Travellers returning from all parts of Spain (including from the Balearics and Canaries) will be required to provide an address at which they will self-isolate for 14 days or risk being fined, but the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is not advising you to cut short your visit.

During the two-week quarantine period, individuals will not be allowed to go out to work, school, public areas or have visitors except for essential support. If you are due to travel to Spain, or if you have recently returned, then please visit the Foreign Office’s website to receive up-to-date advice (https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=376b17148a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-376b17148a-40059651)

You can ask for a test through the NHS (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=376b17148a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-376b17148a-40059651) or by calling NHS 119. You must book to attend, please do not turn up without an appointment. Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email or text telling you the time to attend. You should not use public transport to attend the test. If you travel on foot, please observe social distancing at all times.

If you are an essential worker, or live with an essential worker, and have coronavirus symptoms, you should apply for a coronavirus test on GOV.UK (https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=9feb47370b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-9feb47370b-40042831&utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=41fd4f1470-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-41fd4f1470-40042831&utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=b74103455b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-b74103455b-40042831&utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=376b17148a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-376b17148a-40059651) .
NHS TEST AND TRACE: NHS Test and Trace is helping both in reducing the spread of coronavirus and in containing and stopping localised outbreaks. It is helping the NHS keep the rate of reproduction – the ‘R’ number – below 1 so that the Council can continue to support the safe reopening of Westminster. Our dedicated hub (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/test-and-trace?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=376b17148a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-376b17148a-40059651) provides all the information you need to know, including a short video explaining how the system works (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2_n3Rcut5M&feature=youtu.be&utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=376b17148a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-376b17148a-40059651) and details of our Local Outbreak Plan.

STOPPING THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS: We all have a role to play in stopping the spread of coronavirus. To protect yourself and others, please read the NHS’s advice on social distancing (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/social-distancing/what-you-need-to-do/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=376b17148a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-376b17148a-40059651) .

Do not leave your home if you have any of the following:
* a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
* a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
* a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia) – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

If you have one or more symptoms of coronavirus, you must ask for a test through the NHS website (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/ask-for-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=376b17148a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-376b17148a-40059651) or by calling 119. Testing is available for people of all ages.
