** Weekly round-up, 5th June 2020
------------------------------------------------------------
Our regular updates are changing. Following feedback from residents, we’re moving our My Westminster updates to three times a week. If you would prefer a weekly round-up, please take a moment to update your communication preferences (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/profile?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=bd2a0fcc47&e=d1badfe10a&utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=fed54f890f-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-fed54f890f-40059651) .

Keep 2M distance

SOCIAL DISTANCING: As lockdown restrictions ease slightly, it is still vital not to forget to keep your 2-metre distance when outside your household, and to still wash your hands for 20 seconds when you get home.

✓   Wash your hands
✓   Adhere to social distancing
✓ Isolate if you have symptoms
✓ Get a test if you have symptoms

Groups of up to 6 people can now gather in outdoor public and private settings, such as parks and private gardens, provided they maintain social distancing.

** Public health updates
------------------------------------------------------------
Face mask
FACE COVERINGS: Face coverings on public transport will be mandatory from Monday 15 June in England. The government will require people to wear face coverings on buses, trains, tubes and other modes of public transport from that date, when non-essential shops are likely to reopen. Transport Police will enforce these rules and anyone who does not follow the rules may be fined where necessary. There will be exemptions for young children.

Face coverings will be handed out for free at a selection of tube and bus stations that have seen higher numbers of people travelling during the lockdown. Click here to learn more about the requirements for wearing face coverings on public transport (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/face-coverings-to-become-mandatory-on-public-transport?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=fed54f890f-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-fed54f890f-40059651) .

HOSPITALS: As the NHS reopens across the country, it is critical to stop the spread among staff, patients and visitors. Therefore, all hospital visitors and outpatients will need to wear face coverings as of Monday 15 June.
NHS TEST AND TRACE: The NHS Test and Trace service (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=fed54f890f-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-fed54f890f-40059651) aims to control the rate of reproduction ‘R’ and reduce the spread of infection. Everyone has a role to play in helping to make the Test and Trace service work. The diagram below outlines the steps you must take if you have coronavirus symptoms or are informed that you have been in close contact with someone with coronavirus. The Government has expanded testing eligibility further to include children aged under 5. This means that anyone who has symptoms can get a test.

Tachbrook Market

Tachbrook Market

WESTMINSTER MARKETS BACK IN BUSINESS: The Leader of Westminster City Council, Rachael Robathan, and Cllr Matthew Green, Cabinet Member for Business and Planning, visited Tachbrook Street market on the first day of trading this week as shoppers returned to markets in central London. Signage and floor markings are being installed across the city and strict social distancing measures have been introduced to help people to shop safely.

MOVING AROUND THE CITY SAFELY: We have been making changes to the roads in and around the city. To safely support the easing of the lockdown, we are temporarily widening pavements, pedestrian areas and cycle lanes to help people to move around more safely. Click here for more details (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/westminster-reopens?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=fed54f890f-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-fed54f890f-40059651#public-movement) .

As part of these measures, and to safely support schools as they welcome back more children, our temporary ‘School Streets’ have also been put in place. We will be increasing pedestrian space at schools across Westminster until December 2020. Vehicle movements will be reduced during the operating times of a School Street so that school children, their parents and carers and other visitors can walk, cycle and scooter more, as well as being safe whilst social distancing. HONOURING GEORGE FLOYD: This week, City Hall was lit up in purple in memory of George Floyd, and to stand in solidarity with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities across Westminster and around the world against racial injustice.

Kindness and wellbeing are a big driving force to how I live my life and in these times we are experiencing, it’s important to help each other out, it gives me a sense of purpose and pride.”

** Do not leave your home if you have coronavirus symptoms
------------------------------------------------------------

Following updated guidance from the UK Chief Medical Officers, anyone who develops a new continuous cough or fever or anosmia should self-isolate. Anosmia is the loss of or a change in your normal sense of smell. It can also affect your sense of taste as the two are closely linked.

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:
* a new continuous cough
* a high temperature
* a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
