MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK: Did you know that being kind can release neurochemicals that result in a sense of well-being? The theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is kindness and we are sharing stories from across Westminster of peoples everyday acts of kindness.
Sean Stewart returned to Westminster City Council after retiring in October 2018 from his 24 glorious years of service with Everyone Active. Since returning to work, Sean has worked incredibly hard across our 56 Parks and Open Spaces installing signage to help keep residents safe. Everyone in the Physical Activity, Leisure and Sport (PALS) service and across the Council would like to thank Sean for his continued unwavering commitment to Westminster and the people we serve!

HOUSING: The Minister of Housing, Christopher Pincher, sent a letter to all social housing residents (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/885686/Covid19_Letter_to_social_housing_residents.pdf?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=2a8cc49394-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-2a8cc49394-40059651) this week setting out measures to support social housing residents during the next phase towards reopening society. This letter includes information about maintenance and repairs, gas safety checks, remediation works, home moves, support for domestic abuse victims and anti-social behaviour.
In line with this, we are gradually reintroducing the allocation of social housing to those most in need. We will make offers to those that need to move for urgent health and welfare reasons, who are willing to move during COVID-19, and homeless families, who will have properties made available through Choice-Based Lettings (CBL). This is an interim approach to the way we move people to help safeguard those most at risk during this time.

** Public health advice
------------------------------------------------------------
A total of 246,406 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the United Kingdom. Of those hospitalised, 34,796 have sadly died.
There are 645 confirmed cases in Westminster.
Currently, the number of confirmed cases does not reflect the likely number of individuals who have contracted coronavirus. This is because community testing is no longer being undertaken.

** Do not leave your home if you have coronavirus symptoms
------------------------------------------------------------
Following updated guidance from the UK Chief Medical Officers, from today, anyone who develops a new continuous cough or fever or anosmia should self-isolate. Anosmia is the loss of or a change in your normal sense of smell. It can also affect your sense of taste as the two are closely linked.
The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:
* a new continuous cough
* a high temperature
* a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
