HANDS, FACE, SPACE: This short video from Grant Aitken, Head of Health Partnerships for Westminster, explains the three simple actions you can take to reduce the spread of coronavirus:
* Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds regularly, use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
* Wear a face covering when in enclosed spaces
* Keep your distance by staying at least 2 metres apart – or 1 metre with a face covering or other precautions
MOBILE TESTING UNITS: On Thursday 15 and Friday 16 October, a mobile testing unit will be available on North Carriage Drive in Hyde Park, from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Please remember, you can only be tested if you have pre-booked. Book online on the NHS website (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=b216d835a3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-b216d835a3-40059651) .
NEW TESTING CENTRE OPENS: A new testing centre has been opened at Greenside Community Centre to increase the number of tests available for residents in Westminster. The walk-through testing centre will be open seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm.
Two more testing sites are being set up at Grosvenor Hall and Lydford Tenants and Residents Hall. Further details will follow later this week. Existing bookings and regular users of the community halls are being provided with alternative community spaces so that their activities can continue. Read more here about local testing sites (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/coronavirus-testing-units-westminster?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=b216d835a3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-b216d835a3-40059651) .

WESTMINSTER HEADTEACHER RECOGNISED IN QUEEN'S HONOURS: Over the weekend, it was announced Max Haimendorf, Principal of Ark King Solomon Academy, had been awarded an OBE for services to education in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Max was appointed secondary headteacher in 2008 and has been the all-through Principal of King Solomon Academy since 2016.
After the news was announced, Max said: “It’s a great honour. I’ve been lucky to work with an amazing team of people for many years and we’ve achieved great things. It’s very encouraging to have that hard work and commitment of everyone involved recognised. It’s been really nice to have messages of congratulations from parents, pupils and staff who all feel proud of their school.”
A big congratulations to Max!
SHARE YOUR VIEWS ON OUR LICENSING POLICY: Westminster is at the heart of London’s night-time and visitor economy, and licensed premises contribute a huge amount to the economy and vibrancy of the City. However, we understand that they can also create problems for local services and residents.
Our Licensing Policy is being reviewed and revised. As part of this process, we want to hear from Westminster residents and businesses to hear their thoughts about the proposed changes. A consultation has launched today and will run to Sunday 15 November. There are number of ways you can give your opinion. Feel free to have your say by filling in our short online questionnaire (https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/CIAConsultation2020/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=b216d835a3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-b216d835a3-40059651) . Or, you’re welcome to join an online Q&A session with Cllr Heather Acton, Cabinet Member for Public Protection and Licensing. Book your ticket today (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/licensing-policy-review-qas-with-westminster-residents-tickets-125002354407?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=b216d835a3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-b216d835a3-40059651) .

KING STREET'S GROUND-BREAKING LOW-CARBON ROADWORKS: A six-week project to repair public highways and upgrade the footway in King Street will see the exclusive use of electric vehicles, tools, welfare, and recycled equipment, to remove the traditional need for diesel and petrol engines and cut carbon emissions by almost 75% compared to traditional industry methods. This latest collaboration between the Council and our contractors FM Conway aims to deliver a ground-breaking change, not only for Westminster, but for the future of the industry.
