THANKING OUR VOLUNTEERS: One of Westminster’s brightest attractions has been lit up by some of Westminster’s brightest heroes. Westminster Connects volunteers have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic – from supporting vulnerable residents, to delivering crucial supplies such as food and medicine to those who can’t leave their homes. As such, we felt they deserved a huge public thank you for all ongoing their efforts.
That’s why, from today until Sunday 25 October, our volunteers will be featuring on the giant Piccadilly Lights display screens overlooking Piccadilly Circus. It’s our way of sending out a loud and clear “thank you” to every volunteer that has given up – and continues to give up – their time to help those in need.
Two of the volunteers that saw themselves adorning the giant display were Joao Rocha of Storm Flowers London, and Anne Carels (both pictured above). Joao said “The reason I volunteer is to give something back to the community and make good use of my time. It’s overwhelming to see my face up [on the display] but I’m really happy about it!”

REGISTER FOR THE FIRST VIRTUAL OPEN FORUM: The first virtual Open Forum is taking place next Monday (26 October), giving you the opportunity to hear from the Leader of the Council and Cabinet Members about what’s what we’re doing to tackle climate change in Westminster.
The discussion will focus on the environment, including the climate emergency, air quality and recycling. You can submit questions beforehand or live on the night.
Register here to take part (https://westminster-open-forum-oct_20.eventbrite.co.uk/) and make sure to read more about the work and projects that are already underway (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/climate-projects?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=66ae02ee09-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-66ae02ee09-40059651) to reduce emissions across the city.

20MPH SPEED LIMIT: After a four-month installation process, all streets managed by Westminster will now come under an enforceable 20mph speed limit, providing safer, greener, and cleaner streets for all road users.
This essential improvement marks just part of the council’s ongoing commitment to reducing the severity of accidents, limiting speeds and tackling road traffic pollution. This change will also make it easier and safer to travel on foot or by cycle, helping to improve public space and to encourage healthier, more active lifestyles.
