Westminster schools 'top of the class' in new report: Secondary schools in Westminster have been recognised for having the smallest gap in learning for disadvantaged children in England, in a new report published by the Education Policy Institute. Over the past three years, Westminster has continued to close the gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged students, reducing it to just two weeks. This far outperforms the national average of 22 months.

Cllr Timothy Barnes, Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “It’s fantastic to see the Education Policy Institute recognising that Westminster council has the smallest gap in learning for disadvantaged pupils. This has been an ongoing trend for the last few years and we will continue to ensure we close the gap even further in Westminster schools."

Test and Trace hub: The Council has a dedicated Test and Trace hub (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/test-and-trace?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=fe032ef8d8-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-fe032ef8d8-40059651) with advice on COVID-19 and links to central Government and NHS health advice. This includes information available in Arabic, Bengali, Kurdish Sorani, Portuguese, Somali and Tigrinya. Watch the video for the latest guidance on Test and Trace.

Mobile testing unit: A mobile coronavirus testing unit will be available on North Carriage Drive in Hyde Park on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 September 2020, from 10:30AM to 3:30PM. Tests are available for people over 5 years old with symptoms of coronavirus.

Stopping the spread of coronavirus: The most important thing you can do to protect yourself and others is to:
* wash your hands more often than usual for 20 seconds
* cover your mouth and nose when in places where it’s hard to stay away from other people you do not normally meet
* keep your distance

Stay at home and book a test if you have any of the following:
* a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
* a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
* a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia) – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
