Westminster coronavirus cases update
Over the past few weeks we have seen an increase in confirmed cases of coronavirus across London, including in Westminster. In the seven days up to Saturday 5 September, there were 52 positive cases of coronavirus recorded within our borough, which means an incident rate of 20.8 per 100,000 people.
It is important to say that this figure is well below what would cause us to implement tighter local restrictions and remains below both the London and England rates. However, we want to be prepared so that we do everything possible to keep this under control.
I know you are likely to have heard this before, but it is now vital that we all continue to follow the NHS advice to help protect our family, friends and neighbours.
Please continue to:
* Wash your hands, regularly and for at least 20 seconds, or if you can’t, use hand sanitiser
* Stay at least two metres away from people outside your household
* Wear a face covering in shops and supermarkets, on public transport and when in other indoor spaces where keeping at least two metres apart from others isn’t possible. Please always take a face covering with you when you leave your home in case you need to use it
* Get a free test now if you have any COVID-19 symptoms (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=44b1c36443-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-44b1c36443-40059651)
* Stay at home if you test positive for the virus or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive and been asked to by NHS Test and Trace
As a precautionary measure to keep our most vulnerable residents safe, we have advised our care homes that visits to their residents by family and friends do not take place for the time being.
We have all done a huge amount to help control the spread of coronavirus so far. Let’s not throw away the hard work and sacrifices made by so many during lockdown.
Please pass this message onto your family, friends and neighbours. Keep up to date with advice and support by going to the council’s website (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=44b1c36443-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-44b1c36443-40059651) or following us on Twitter (https://twitter.com/CityWestminster?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=44b1c36443-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-44b1c36443-40059651) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CityWestminster/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=44b1c36443-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-44b1c36443-40059651) .
Keep safe.
