#ASKWESTMINSTER: Members of our Youth Council (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/about-council/youth-council) has been putting their COVID vaccination questions to Marylebone Health Centre GP, Dr Afsana Safa. Here she answers Myra’s question (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWfl-oh15v8) on vaccine prioritisation and whether people who have had COVID-19 can now get their vaccine.

CHURCH STREET GETS TESTING: Residents of Church Street have been turning out to collect their free COVID-19 home testing kits. Over the weekend, we handed out more than 2,800 kits – meaning a staggering 19,600 individual tests are now in people’s homes. It’s important to continue to do regular tests, even after you’ve had the vaccine. Visit the testing pages on our website (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/covid-19-testing) to find out more about home testing, or visit the Government’s website to order test kits to your home (https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests) .

GETTING WESTMINSTER BACK IN SHAPE: Champions of the Future (https://active.westminster.gov.uk/champion-of-the-future-programme/) athlete and Team GB basketball player, Melita Emanuel-Carr (https://youtu.be/4fAkv83fkkg) , tells us how our local leisure centres have helped her along her injury journey and the importance of staying healthy as well as safe during the pandemic. We’ve implemented robust safety measures designed to create a COVID-secure environment in all our leisure centres (https://active.westminster.gov.uk/leisure-centres/) , so come along and get your fit back on.
GET INTO VOLUNTEERING: Over the past year Westminster Connects (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/coronavirus-how-you-can-help/volunteering-opportunities) has brought people from across the City together, making a real difference in your community. One volunteer, Daniela, tells us of her experience volunteering with the matched shopping service:
“I volunteer with Westminster Connects as I’m eager to support people in my community. I live in Paddington and helping vulnerable people with their shopping and prescription pickup is ideal for me as I can take care of it during a short break or after work.
I was excited and a little bit nervous when I was contacted regarding my first match, but it turned out that the resident was just as nervous as I was! The tasks may seem simple, but they make a big difference in some people’s lives. Everyone I’ve met has been absolutely lovely and I feel much more connected with my community as now the pharmacists have also come to know me.”

LAST CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR SAY: This weekend will be the last chance to complete the census and ensure your voices are heard (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/census2021/?utm_id=census21_mywestminster) and your community’s needs are represented. Regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs and personal circumstances, everybody matters and you have the right to be heard.
So far Westminster’s residents have responded extremely well. However, we want to hear from even more, particularly from residents in Queen’s Park, Church Street and Harrow Road. The census only takes ten minutes to complete, your data will remain strictly anonymous and as Westminster resident, Iman, describes in the above video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSryZJx9pUg) , it helps us to plan local services such as healthcare, education and housing for the next decade.
Let’s work together and make sure your household is counted (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/census2021/?utm_id=census21_mywestminster) .

TAKE PART IN OUR HOUSING SERVICES CONSULTATION: Acting on the feedback of our housing services tenants and leaseholders is key for us to be able to improve and tailor our services to meet your needs. We’re therefore proposing a more flexible, inclusive and targeted approach to engaging our residents over the next three years.
This week, our tenants and leaseholders will have started receiving letters and leaflets through the post explaining the proposed approach. Feedback can be provided using the included form, or via the webpage (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/housing/your-community/get-involved/have-your-say-our-resident-engagement-consultation-21-may) we’ve created.
If you are a housing services resident, please have your say before Friday 21 May (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/news/housing-residents-help-reshape-westminster-engagement) .
