70 Acts of ASL

"I have a passion to help others do better and live better," explains Dean Axelrod ’82. As an associate director of Direct Relief charity, which has shipped more than $ 1 billion in medical aid to 100 countries in response to COVID-19, Dean does just that, modeling kindness and responsibility that makes a world of difference to others in their time of need. We’re proud of this Eagle who lives ASL’s mission 6,000 miles from campus and 39 years since his graduation! In memoriam

Spotlight: Oonagh Stransky ’85 is o-living the dream

Born in Paris, raised on three continents and educated at ASL, Oonagh was one of five Stransky children to come of age at One Waverley Place (2-8 Loudoun Road to them and their classmates). As a university student, she studied in Florence, absorbing Italy’s language and culture and building a career as an Italian translator on both sides of the Atlantic. After buying a small farm in Tuscany eight years ago, Oonagh learned about the 100-year-old olive trees that grew on her land, but it wasn’t until the pandemic that she truly connected to them—and to friends and family far away—through the beauty of the harvest.
