COLD WEATHER WARNING: It’s going to be turning particularly cold this weekend and during next week, with snow and ice expected. Some people are more vulnerable in the cold, so please remember to check in on any frail or older neighbours or relatives – either over the phone or by a socially-distanced doorstep visit if they live close by.

People First has lots more advice on how best to cope with colder weather (https://www.peoplefirstinfo.org.uk/news/cold-weather-advice/?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=f3106d5b0b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-f3106d5b0b-40059651) .

COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION FUND – APPLY BY SUNDAY: There are just a few days left for charities, voluntary or community groups working in Westminster to apply for Community Contribution funding (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/community-contribution-fund?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=f3106d5b0b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-f3106d5b0b-40059651) . The City of Westminster Charitable Trust is offering grants of up to £20,000 for community-focused projects that benefit residents in Westminster. Projects can be in any of these fields:
* Youth support
* Helping rough sleepers off the streets at night
* Helping lonely and isolated people

The Community Contribution Fund is made possible thanks to the generous donations of Westminster residents that have chosen to give more to their local community on a voluntary basis.

Applications are open until this Sunday (7 February). Find out more details about the fund and get information on how to apply (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/community-contribution-fund?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=f3106d5b0b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-f3106d5b0b-40059651) .
CROWDFUND WESTMINSTER RETURNS THIS SPRING: Have you got an idea that benefits the community but need a little help getting started? Crowdfund Westminster gives you the chance to pitch and support creative, diverse projects that will benefit our communities. Along with advice, the scheme also has funds it can pledge to campaigns, with funding dependent on the nature of the project.

CHECKING IN ON YOUR FAMILY’S WELLBEING: As Children’s Mental Health Week draws to a close, it is important to recognise how the emotional wellbeing of a whole household, particularly at this time, can impact on different members of the family.

The Westminster Adult and Education Service offers parents and carers some practical guidance that will help families create routines (https://www.waes.ac.uk/course/positive-pathways-becoming-stronger-together-family-lives-wf0205lg2021?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=f3106d5b0b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-f3106d5b0b-40059651) , feel in control and take good care of their own wellbeing rather than just surviving the busy day fulfilling the needs of others.

Sign up for this family focused course that runs on 23 February from 10am (https://www.waes.ac.uk/course/positive-pathways-becoming-stronger-together-family-lives-wf0205lg2021?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=f3106d5b0b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-f3106d5b0b-40059651) .

IMPROVING PRIVATE RENTAL STANDARDS: We are happy to announce that we have now launched our Private Rented Sector Strategy 2021-2025 (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/housing/private-sector-housing/private-rented-sector-strategy-2021-2025?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=f3106d5b0b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-f3106d5b0b-40059651) .

The new, long-term strategy will ensure private rented accommodation is well-run and that properties are of good quality. It’s been developed following last autumn’s consultation with tenants, landlords, advice organisations and others.

You can read the full strategy document here (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/housing/private-sector-housing/private-rented-sector-strategy-2021-2025?utm_source=MyWestminster+Updates&utm_campaign=f3106d5b0b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_22_10_27_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_bd2a0fcc47-f3106d5b0b-40059651) .
