X TROOP: THE SECRET JEWISH COMMANDOS,
12 JULY, 7PM BST
https://jewishbookweek.com/event/x-troop-the-secret-jewish-commandos/
Leah Garrett draws on extensive original research, including interviews with the last surviving members of the top secret unit of Jewish refugees from Germany and Austria who escaped to Britain just before the War, to tell the true story of X Troop. She follows this unique band of brothers from Europe to England and back again, with stops at British internment camps, the beaches of Normandy, the battlefields of Italy and Holland, and the hellscape of Terezin concentration camp - the scene of one of the most dramatic, untold rescues of the war. She joins us live from the US in conversation with historian Helen Fry.

Jewish Book Week is organised and hosted by the Jewish Book Council, a UK registered charity. We welcome donations to enable us to bring together authors and audiences to explore the very best of Jewish writing. While the annual Jewish Book Week produces income from ticket sales, these cover only a third of the festival’s costs. The remainder derives from the generosity of sponsors, grant-givers and individual donors.
If you are able to support us, please contribute whatever you can (https://jewishbookweek.com/donate/)

In 2000 at Jewish Book Week Howard Jacobson made his claim for James Joyce's classic as the greatest Jewish novel of the 20th century; in 2012 the Booker-winning author returned to the festival to explore this in more depth, accompanied by actors Henry Goodman and Derbhle Crotty
