‘FAIRING’ WELL AT CHURCH STREET: It was fantastic to see all the families at the Church Street Health Fair on Monday (along with the shining Bank Holiday sun)! Throughout the day we saw more than 400 visitors, administered 81 COVID vaccines and distributed 560 at-home testing kits.
Our thanks to all the organisations and volunteers involved with this event, including Church Street Library, My Church Street (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=171a38590c&e=7e37558eca) , BME Health Forum, ActiveWestminster (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=af441e9355&e=7e37558eca) , Church St Community Champions, The MC Trust and the Marylebone Bangladesh Society.
Over the coming weeks, a vaccine bus will be at different locations across Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea to offer walk-in vaccinations to those over 40. Check the schedule here (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=a7ff986dae&e=7e37558eca) .

CHECK BEFORE YOU CHUCK: We need your help to drive recycling in Westminster! An estimated 65% of the waste we throw away each year could be recycled – enough to fill the Royal Albert Hall. Recycling cardboard packaging, plastic bottles and metal cans means less energy and fewer natural resources are needed to make new ones. So we’re asking people to ‘check before they chuck’. Before throwing something away, always ask yourself can it be recycled? If so, put it in the mixed recycling.
We have lots of recycling graphics for you to share across your social media networks, including the animation above. Or simply share the messages posted on our Facebook (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=7c9c102904&e=7e37558eca) , Instagram (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=067c089280&e=7e37558eca) and Twitter (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=14b4b8ed3e&e=7e37558eca) channels.

The ten vacant units will showcase forward thinking, sustainable and innovative companies and we’re also offering grants of up to £5,000 to help fund each unit’s installation. Applications are now open and run until 10 June. Find out more about what’s on offer and how to apply here (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=f4448439af&e=7e37558eca) .

A LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE: Fostering is one of the most varied and rewarding things you can do and, in Westminster, we need more foster carers to support our most vulnerable children. Richard has been a foster carer for more than 20 years. “Fostering has definitely kept me young!” he says. “You learn as much from the children you’re fostering as they do from you. Several of my previous foster children still come back to me for help or advice – it’s really rewarding.” As the video above shows, foster carers come from all walks of life. Find out how you can make a real difference to someone in need (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=bd1a5fe4be&e=7e37558eca) .

ARE YOU IN THE ZONE? Many areas across London are still exceeding the legal limits for air pollution. To help tackle this, the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is expanding from 25 October. Four out of five cars already meet the ULEZ emissions standards, but we need owners of older vehicles to take action. Check your vehicle meets the ULEZ emissions standards and view an interactive map of the expanded zone (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=44267aa614&e=7e37558eca) .

TRAIN TO BECOME A FULL-FIBRE SPECIALIST: Broadband company, G.Network, is urging Westminster residents to apply to its recruitment and training programme for hundreds of ‘fibre specialist’ positions (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=222e52b132&e=7e37558eca) . No previous fibre or engineering experience is needed. More information can be gained at an upcoming open day run by G.Network and the Westminster Employment Service, running 16 June from 10am to 1pm. To attend, send your CV and details to weserm at westminster.gov.uk (mailto:weserm at westminster.gov.uk) .

WAES SHORTLISTED FOR AWARD: Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) was shortlisted for the second year running as the Adult and Community Learning Provider of the Year at the Times Educational Supplement (TES) FE Awards.
