MARKING NATIONAL WINDRUSH DAY: This week marked the 73rd anniversary since HMT Empire Windrush arrived in Tilbury Docks in 1948. To commemorate this, a new, green plaque has been unveiled at London Paddington Station (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=92184eeaa3&e=7e37558eca) . The plaque means that commuters and visitors from all over the world can now pause and acknowledge the history of and contribution made by the Windrush Generation, who came to London between 1948 and 1970 to help rebuild a nation ravaged by war. Peter Straker, who travelled from Jamaica to the UK as a young boy with his family after WWII, unveiled the plaque.
Cllr Heather Acton, Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Communities, said: “We have a large Caribbean community in Westminster and we must continue to highlight and always remember the enormous contribution the Windrush Generation made and continues to make in our communities.” Find out more about our plaque unveiling and the other Windrush events to come (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=d3b0d1e877&e=7e37558eca) .

We’d like your views on the draft of this policy, so please take our short survey by 28 July (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=c74919a316&e=7e37558eca) .
