Take care as the ice melts

Warmer weather is on its way, which is great news. But please remember that going from freeze to thaw can cause burst pipes.

We’re working hard to prepare for this, so it doesn’t affect our network.

What are we doing?

When it warms up, there can be ground movement which makes our pipes leak or burst.

To be ready, we’ve made more teams available to answer calls and do repairs.

What can you do if your pipes are frozen?

Here’s how to thaw out your pipes safely:

* Fill up your kettle, then find your stop tap ( https://www.thameswater.co.uk/help/emergencies/how-to-turn-your-water-on-and-off/how-to-find-and-use-your-inside-stop-valve ) and turn off your water
* Turn on all your household taps to let the water run out
* Make a hot water bottle with your kettle water, wrap in a tea towel and hold it against your frozen pipe (thawing can take a while, so please be patient)
* After the pipe has thawed, wipe some kitchen roll along it to see if there are any leaks.
