LATEST HELP AND SUPPORT: We want to reach out to all of our Ukrainian residents and anyone with friends and families affected by, or concerned about, events in Ukraine. Councillor Rachael Robathan, Leader of Westminster City Council, says: “The crisis in Ukraine is a deeply worrying time for anyone in Westminster with friends and family in the region. We’ll do everything we can to support them.”
* If you are a resident with friends and family in Ukraine and need information or support about what is happening, please contact the Ukrainian embassy (https://mfa.gov.ua/en/embassies/velika-britaniya) .
* You can make a donation towards the UN’s humanitarian work via the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (https://crisisrelief.un.org/t/ukraine) at the UN Crisis Relief website.

WORKING TOGETHER TO KEEP OUR CITY CLEAN: We want everyone in Westminster to be proud of the area in which they live (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/proud-of-westminster) and we all have a part to play in making this happen by disposing of waste correctly and making a communal effort to keep the city looking its best. In response to an increased demand for cleansing activities, we are working closely with our partners at Veolia to improve all cleansing services. We have introduced a weekend rapid response cleansing service focusing on residential streets to keep them clean.

Cllr Robathan and Cllr James Spencer, Cabinet Member for City Management (pictured above), visited with our street cleaning teams in Pimlico earlier this week to see the cleaning of streets in action. “Our amazing Veolia crews are one of the reasons we are Proud of Westminster – clearing up after the storms and keeping the City looking good as our streets get busier,” said Cllr Robathan. Find out more about the new weekend rapid response cleansing service, and other ways we are making the city clean and safe (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/proud-of-westminster) .

A SPECIAL DAY FOR TWO-SOMES: Last Tuesday was 22/02/2022, known to many as ‘Twosday’ or ‘Palindrome Day’. As part of this special day, there were 22 wedding ceremonies held across Westminster, including many at the Old Marylebone Town Hall. Lead registrar at Westminster Registration Service, Alison Cathcart, said: “Lots of people came asking for this day because of all the twos. It’s a very memorable date and for guys out there who have trouble remembering their anniversary, now there is absolutely no excuse!”

For one of the couples, Damien and Adelle Finnegan (https://youtu.be/n8LCrr-3sgc) , the date also marked three years since they first met. “We got engaged during the first lockdown and we got excited about it being all the twos!” said Adelle. “It’s a lucky date for us in the sense we just got married, and I think it will always feel lucky.” Find out more about tying the knot in Westminster (https://www.adaytoremember.london/) .

GREENER AND CLEANER WITH OUR GREEN SPINE PROJECT: Cllr Heather Acton, Cabinet Member for Communities and Regeneration, recently visited our Green Spine project in the Church Street area. Lisson Street is now a completely green pedestrianised space, with pathways, wider pavements, seating and play equipment located throughout the area. The street is now free of traffic and there’s even a stage for hosting community events. Salisbury Street has also had its pavements widened and stylish new street lighting installed. New plantings and rain gardens have been added throughout that, aside from looking delightful, help to soak up surface water. Find out more about how we’re creating a greener, cleaner Church Street area (https://churchstreet.org/projects/places/green-spine/) .

A PLAN FOR LIVING WITH COVID: The government has confirmed the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England with a new ‘Living with COVID’ plan. Full details can be found at the government’s COVID web pages (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/prime-minister-sets-out-plan-for-living-with-covid) . As of yesterday (Thursday 24 February), the legal requirement to self-isolate after testing positive for COVID-19 has ended, fully vaccinated contacts of positive COVID-19 cases are no longer asked to test for seven days and the legal requirement for close contacts who are not fully vaccinated to self-isolate has been removed. Although restrictions have been lifted, you are still encouraged to get vaccinated as this is our best defence against COVID-19. Full details vaccination sites in Westminster can be found here (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/walk-vaccinations-available-westminster) .
ADDITIONAL COVID-19 BOOSTER: Immunity to COVID-19 decreases over time, so the NHS is offering an additional booster jab in spring to those people at higher risk. Book online via the NHS (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/book-or-manage-a-booster-dose-of-the-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine/) or visit one of our walk-in vaccination centres (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/walk-vaccination-service-now-available-westminster) .
