** 50 Years of Pride in London
------------------------------------------------------------
https://www.westminster.gov.uk/pride-london
MARCHING HAND-IN-HAND WITH HISTORY: As this year marks 50 years since the very first Pride march in London, tomorrow’s parade will retrace the route (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/pride-london) of the historic route taken in 1972. The heritage route will assemble on Park Lane and travel down Piccadilly, crossing Piccadilly Circus, travelling down Haymarket, turning left towards Trafalgar Square and dispersing on Whitehall.

Joining this year’s parade? Celebrating with events of your own? Tag us on social media at @CityWestminster and #WestminsterCelebratesPride to share your stories. If you need information on road closures, parking restrictions or other ways the parade will affect the areas around the route, head over to our Pride in London resident’s information page (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/pride-london-2022-information-businesses-and-residents) .
** Help with the Cost of Living
------------------------------------------------------------
https://www.westminster.gov.uk/education/free-school-meals/apply-free-school-meals
SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLE DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS: As part of our support for families during the upcoming summer holiday, we are providing Free School Meal vouchers to all eligible children. It’s part of a £1.35million support package and equates to £15 per child per week. Councillor Tim Roca, Cabinet Member for Young People, Learning and Leisure said: “We know that the rising cost of living is hitting our residents hard, particularly families on low incomes. We urge those experiencing hardship to reach out for support.” Check your family’s eligibility for Free School Meals and find out how to apply (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/education/free-school-meals/apply-free-school-meals) .
https://www.westminster.gov.uk/energy-saving-show-home
HELP TO REDUCE YOUR ENERGY BILLS: Cllr Matt Noble, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Regeneration and Renters (pictured above) has opened the doors to our new energy-efficient show home (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/energy-saving-show-home) in Queen’s Park. The home shows you ways to make your home more energy efficient and reduce energy bills. Improvements include wall and underfloor insulation, thermally-efficient windows and doors, solar panels and battery storage. These could potentially reduce your energy bills from over £1,000 per year to nearly zero. Book a guided tour of the home here (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/energy-saving-show-home-open-day-tours-tickets-372675080197) .
HELP AND SUPPORT AVAILABLE: We know that many people are worried about the rising cost of living in 2022, including rising energy bills, and we want to provide as much support as possible. A range of help and guidance is available (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/advice-and-financial-help-residents) , including practical advice and other ways to save money.
** Lost Londoners Count
------------------------------------------------------------
https://www.westminster.gov.uk/lost-londoners-count
During last year’s COVID-19 lockdown, the Office of National Statistics (ONS) conducted its census survey. We believe that because of the nature of pandemic, the number of residents listed in the figures isn’t accurate. The data collected is used by the government to allocate funding to local councils – funding that goes towards the services that keep your neighbourhoods clean and safe. That’s why we’re urging the ONS to rethink its figures. Join us in making our #LostLondonersCount (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/lost-londoners-count) .

** More From Your Westminster
------------------------------------------------------------
https://www.westminster.gov.uk/report-it
IMPROVING YOUR NEIGHBOURHOODS: Our City Highways team continues to work hard responding to your reports. Recently we’ve seen broken bollards repaired at Fernhead Road in Maida Hill and Mercer Street in Covent Garden (pictured above), as well as carriageways being made safe at Harewood Avenue in Marylebone. These are just a few examples of the hard work being carried out by our teams every day, all thanks to your use of our online Report-It tool (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/report-it) . Remember, you can send us notices of any repair work that needs attending in your neighbourhood.
SUPPORT OUR BUSES: Transport for London has extended its ‘Central London Bus Review’ consultation, proposing changes to bus routes across the city, until the end of Sunday 7 August. Buses are needed to offer our residents the cheapest way to travel around London and are vital for those who are not able-bodied or who work nightshifts. Make sure to have your say (https://haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/busreview) .
https://www.wearepossible.org/going-car-free-2022
COULD YOU GO CAR-FREE FOR JULY? Could you swap your daily commute or school run from car to bus or bike? Could you go car-free for a day? A week? A month? Going Car Free 2022 (https://www.wearepossible.org/going-car-free-2022) is hoping to promote reduced car usage for the month of July. As part of the challenge, there are great prizes to won such as Brompton folding bikes, helmets and bags from Cycle Chic and even organic tea from Joe’s Teas. Sign up to the challenge today (https://action.wearepossible.org/page/107002/data/1) and help make Westminster’s air cleaner.
To help reduce our reliance on cars, Footways is a social enterprise dedicated to promoting walking (https://footways.london/) as being the safest and easiest way to get around cities such as London. Digital and printed maps help connect locations such as train stations and green spaces with appealing and accessible streets. Find out more here (https://footways.london/) .

ENCOURAGING OUR FUTURE ENTREPRENEURS: Pupils from St Augustine’s (https://www.stahigh.org/) have learned the art of the perfect pitch from the Unloc x St Augustine’s Enterprise Challenge. To support young people, we partnered with Unloc, the young person empowerment organisation (https://www.unloc.org.uk/) , for the Youth Innovation Challenge at City Hall earlier this week. Pupils pitched business ideas to a Dragon’s Den-style panel of councillors and Unloc business leads. The winner was Cloud Bank with an innovative idea to raise money to help build water infrastructure in Eretria.

------------------------------------------------------------
KEEP UP TO DATE WITH COVID: Although we are all now learning to live with COVID-19 in our daily lives, we still need to be mindful about taking necessary precautions where appropriate. Make sure to keep checking our website (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/residents/coronavirus-helping-hand-residents) for the very latest information on vaccination centres and how to continue staying safe.

MONKEYPOX: Monkeypox is a viral infection passed on by very close contact. The majority of cases so far have been in men who have sex with other men. However, anyone who has had close contact with someone with symptoms is also at risk. Symptoms include unusual spots, ulcers or blisters anywhere on your body, fever, muscle aches and headaches, swollen glands and chills and exhaustion. If you have these symptoms, please call NHS 111, stay at home and avoid close contact with others until you’ve had medical advice. Visit the NHS website (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/monkeypox/) for more information.
HELP THE NHS SHAPE ITS LOCAL COMMUNITY CARE: The NHS wants to hear from you about what it can do to ensure that its services are delivered in a sensitive and appropriate way so that the people receiving them and their families are as supported as possible.
