CITY FOR ALL – OUR VISION FOR WESTMINSTER’S FUTURE: Our City for All strategy (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/city-for-all) , launched earlier this week by Cllr Rachael Robathan, Leader of Westminster City Council, is our vision for a Westminster that will improve people’s lives for the better and help businesses thrive. The four ‘pillars’ (Vibrant Communities, Greener and Cleaner, Thriving Economy and Smart City) are based on the things that you’ve told us are most important to you. We’ve listened to your feedback and are working to make Westminster the best place to live, work and visit. So far, we’ve reduced carbon emissions, delivered more than 1,000 affordable homes, and invested in our younger generation. But it doesn’t stop there…

City for All means a better future for everyone in Westminster and
this short video outlines the four pillars and what they mean for you
You can read about our City for All vision in detail here (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/city-for-all) and over the next couple of weeks we’ll break down what each of the four pillars mean for Westminster, highlight the success stories our residents have experienced, and outline some of the work we’re doing to bring about a City for All.

OUR NIGHT STARS ARE HERE TO HELP: While out at night, anyone can find themselves in a vulnerable situation and needing a helping hand. Part of our Night Safety campaign, Night Stars (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/leisure-libraries-and-community/volunteering/volunteer-night-safety-team) is a team of volunteers helping to make Westminster’s nightlife safer. Whether you need water, someone to talk to, a safe place to visit or help to report a crime, our Night Stars will be on hand to help. It stems from our successful Soho Angels initiative of previous years, only now the Night Stars will patrol both Soho and Piccadilly with the aim to grow this service across the city. Find out more, including how you can volunteer to help (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/leisure-libraries-and-community/volunteering/volunteer-night-safety-team) .

QUALITY HOMES FOR ALL: The development of three new family-sized, four-bed townhouses available for social rent at Fisherton Street have now been completed. Cllr Robathan visited the development along with Cllr Heather Acton, Cabinet Member for Communities and Regeneration. The townhouses are for some of our Westminster families who are most at need. The high-quality, sustainable houses are situated amongst a new neighbourhood which will see 1,750 new homes built across the regeneration in Church Street. Cllr Robathan said: “These are the sort of homes we want to provide in Westminster for our communities. A key part of our new City for All strategy is making sure we have the homes that our residents need.”

CELEBRATING A WESTMINSTER LIFETIME: Three long-standing residents of Hide Tower were recognised by the council last week for their contribution to the community with a tree planting ceremony. Married couple Jack Fisher, aged 100, and Rose Fisher, aged 101 (https://issuu.com/westminstercitycouncil/docs/509_3_-_wcc_westminster_plus_feb_22_web_aw) , were honoured alongside Winifred Long, also aged 100. Jack Fisher was recognised for his former role as a Committee Member and Chair of the Resident Management Board at Hide Tower. Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Andrew Smith and Cllr David Harvey, Cabinet Member for Housing Services, hosted the ceremony and unveiled a plaque to celebrate the lives of trio. Winifred said: “I didn’t expect this and I’m really quite overwhelmed, however, I love it.”

Jack, pictured above, told the Lord Mayor: “It’s been a fine life here in Hide Tower and we have made many friends. It’s nice to think that when I’m too old, there will be a cherry tree in the garden there. It’s nice to know the council takes an interest in the old folks.” Read more about Jack and Rose’s story in the latest edition of Westminster Plus magazine (https://issuu.com/westminstercitycouncil/docs/509_3_-_wcc_westminster_plus_feb_22_web_aw) .
SETTING OUR BUDGET: Westminster City Council has confirmed its budget for 2022/23. At a meeting on Tuesday 2 March, Full Council agreed to freeze the general element of its Council Tax for the next financial year (2022/23), with a 1% Adult Social Care precept increase that is ringfenced to fund the council’s adult social care services for residents. Recognising the inflationary pressures that residents are under in the aftermath of COVID-19 and the increase in the cost of living, the Band D Council Tax will result in an annual increase of £4.64 or an equivalent weekly amount of 9p per week. VACCINATIONS – AVOIDING MISINFORMATION: We understand that there has been misinformation circulated through some doors of residents around the safety of the COVID-19 vaccines. The vaccines are safe and effective and are the best defence against the effects of the virus and it is always good to get facts directly from official NHS (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/coronavirus-vaccine/) sources.

ADDITIONAL SPRING COVID-19 BOOSTER JAB: Immunity to COVID-19 begins to decrease over time, so the NHS is offering an additional COVID-19 booster jab in spring to those people at higher risk of COVID-19 to make sure they maintain a high level of protection. Book online on the NHS national booking portal (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/book-or-manage-a-booster-dose-of-the-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine/) or visit a walk-in vaccination centre (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/walk-vaccination-service-now-available-westminster) in Westminster.
VACCINATION POP-UP CLINIC: This Sunday, 6 March, the London Chinese Community Centre (2 Leicester Court, WC2H 7DW) will be running a pop-up vaccination clinic from 11am to 3pm. You can either walk in or book an appointment via Eventbrite (https://cas5-0-urlprotect.trendmicro.com/wis/clicktime/v1/query?url=https%3a%2f%2fwww.eventbrite.co.uk%2fe%2f266708711937%2f&umid=7dd580f2-90e8-11ec-8159-000d3a2f7e12&auth=f23bd3b3794c7a5914053bd0a99b1b4837b89b14-f1aba592ef56411e37e533e9c829fdb8e15865ab) or your GP.
