WE STAND WITH YOU, UKRAINE: One year on, we continue to support Ukrainians as they flee war. We've welcomed over 600 individuals and families. But the war isn't over. Want to make your home a refuge (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/ukraine-crisis) ?
Leader Adam Hug at the Ukraine vigil in Trafalgar Square
To show the council's commitment to supporting Ukraine, cabinet members attended a vigil last night with thousands of others in Trafalgar Square. Cabinet members in attendance included Leader Adam Hug, with representatives from both the US and Ukrainian embassies.

We've also announced a new road name (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/news/new-kyiv-road-honours-struggle-embattled-nation) - Kyiv Road - to mark the first anniversary of the war. The change of street name (on a stretch of Bayswater Road) is paid for from existing ward budgets, so there's no additional cost to residents. Watch our conversation with the Ukrainian ambassador (https://youtu.be/kKbLVDi2XQo) about its significance. The new sign is pictured above being held by Cllr Adam Hug.

Prince William and the Leader opening Bentley House
£2.1M GRANT TO SUPPORT ROUGH SLEEPERS: HRH The Prince of Wales and Leader of Westminster City Council, Cllr Adam Hug, (in collaboration with The Passage) opened the Bentley House facility in Victoria, with 20 flats for rough sleepers. Cllr Hug said:
“I am proud Westminster City Council has supported this new centre with a £2.1m grant. It will play a key role in helping some of the most vulnerable rough sleepers away from the streets and towards longer term help. We spend more than any other authority – more than £12m a year – to help those living rough.”

HOW TO STOP SPREADING NOROVIRUS: The winter vomiting bug that we all dread is on the rise. The good news is that it goes away in two to three days. If you have it, remember to:
* Wash your hands regularly: use soap and water, hand sanitiser is not effective against norovirus
* Stay at home: stay away from school or work until 48 hours after the symptoms have stopped
* Do not visit your GP, hospital, care homes or visiting vulnerable loved ones while symptomatic: call your GP, NHS 111 or visit the NHS norovirus webpage (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/norovirus/)
