STRENGTHENING THE HIGH STREET: Council Leader Adam Hug and Cllr Geoff Barraclough, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development (pictured above), spent Friday on Edgware Road talking to local traders about plans to upgrade local high streets. Edgware Road, Praed Street, Queensway, and Westbourne Grove are among some of the areas being looked at by our teams.
Cllr Barraclough, said: “Everyone supports the West End as an engine of the UK economy, but we need to ensure all parts of our city can share in the post-pandemic revival of London’s economy. We’re asking local people: what do you want from your high street? What would make where you live a stronger community?”

HAVE YOUR SAY ON REGENT STREET: We’re also working with The Crown Estate to try and understand our residents’ priorities for Regent Street. We’ve launched a full engagement programme to explore just this. GIF of Pride in Westminster
CELEBRATING PRIDE: We marked Pride this year with a float at the parade organised by the Rainbow Network in collaboration with Unison and Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The float featured designs from Elimu Mas Academy as well as carnival costumes as a nod to the 75th anniversary of Windrush.

BELLS CHIME FOR THE LORD MAYOR: Westminster Abbey was the location for one of the most important events in the council’s calendar on Sunday as it hosted the Civic Service marking the appointment of the new Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Patricia McAllister.

After the service, councillors, cadets from the RAF, Army, London Fire Brigade and St John Ambulance and Cllr McAllister’s family joined the Lord Mayor for a reception in the grounds of Westminster Abbey with the bells of the Abbey ringing in the background.

TACKLING FRAUD AND INJUSTICE: Council housing is meant to be for those truly in need. And we want all forms of defrauding the system to end. A former Westminster resident has been found guilty on three charges of fraud following a three-day trial after dishonestly getting and sub-letting a council property.

DELIVERING AFFORDABLE HOMES: Our Church Street regeneration project has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of a number of new homes. Out of the total homes completed, 26 at Ashbridge Street and 2 homes at Shroton Street have been designated as genuinely affordable.
