MEET THE TEAM AT YOUR NEW HOUSING CENTRE : We are eager to improve our housing services (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/housing) so that all our residents live in good quality homes, where problems get dealt with quickly and efficiently. That is why we are excited to be opening a new Housing Service Centre on the Mozart Estate in Queens Park. The centre will make it easier for local residents to speak to a housing officer directly if they are experiencing problems with repairs, maintenance or need support paying their bills. The Leader, Cllr Adam Hug and and Cllr Liza Begum will be at the centre on Monday 5 June, 10am to 12pm, so come along for a chance to meet the team.

SUPPORTING OUR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES: This week, we opened a new Changing Places Toilet at The Queen Mother’s Sports Centre to meet better the needs of our residents with disabilities. This follows similar facilities at Paddington Recreation Ground and Church Street Community Leisure Centre as we make our buildings more accessible. These new facilities are supported by the recent launch of the WelcoME platform (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/about-council/contact-us/download-welcome-app) which enables residents to plan visits to leisure centres, libraries and our Lisson Grove and City Hall buildings by advising venues prior to arrival of any specific requirements. THERE IS NO PLACE FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN WESTMINSTER: Over the last year, there has been an 11% increase in sexual offences in the borough, with a shocking 84% of those victims being women. Our Night Stars are patrolling the streets looking out for perpetrators and we are doing all we can to stop sexual harassment in Westminster. Find out how you can get involved and help (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/night-safety) .

THUMBS UP FOR NO MOW MAY: After positive feedback, we are now exploring plans to prolong the benefits of Plantlife International ’s No Mow May campaign (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/news/plans-prolong-benefits-no-mow-may) . Residents have commented on enjoying the greater biodiversity of plants, flowers and pollinators in their local green spaces so there will be areas left un-mowed around trees and hedges across all housing estates and parks to ensure the biodiversity gains made during May continue into summer.

LOOKING AFTER OUR NEIGHBOURHOODS: As always, our street teams have been out in force. Whether removing commercial waste from the streets of Soho, cleaning clutter from Hyde Park, safely securing a sinkhole in Little Venice, or even giving streets around Church Street and Marble Arch a powerwash, our teams keep Westminster clean and safe for everyone. Be sure to flag anything you feel needs our attention via our Report it webpage (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/report-it) .

COST OF LIVING SUPPORT: We have found that around a quarter of households in Westminster – more than 31,000 – face a serious reduction in living standards due to rising costs such as fuel, energy bills and food. For more about the different types of support available, check out our hub (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/cost-of-living-support) .

STEP ASIDE JAMIE OLIVER! We’ve teamed with Change4Life and other local partners to deliver a neighbourhood project with the Churchill Gardens community. One of the main barriers to living a healthy lifestyle is knowing how to cook healthy meals on a budget. We organised a series of healthy eating and cooking workshops for families where they learnt how to make healthy, fresh food like salads. 120 residents attended and it’s now being run by a Youth Worker. Find out more (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UIQiSeOuTA) .
