HELP US WITH LOCAL EMPTY HOMES: We have published a new strategy introducing a range of measures, focused on properties vacant for more than 6 months, which will encourage owners to make empty space available for rent while discouraging the purchase of holiday homes or ‘buy to leave’ investment.

The new approach aims to bring homes back into use, and increase the housing supply, especially in the private rented sector. Read more about our strategy which includes setting up a hotline for residents to report empty homes (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/news/westminster-sets-out-plans-fill-central-londons-empty-homes) .

Applicants can apply for funding between £2,000 and £30,000. Find out more and apply by 13 March (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/community-priorities-programme) .

FOOD WASTE ACTION WEEK: UK households waste 4.5m tonnes of edible food each year – enough to fill 90 Royal Albert Halls. Making the most of our food saves money and helps fight climate change. We’re hosting a series of events next week. One of those is a ‘low waste kitchen workshop’ where you’ll learn cooking tips that reduce food waste without compromising on taste. Find out more (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/recycling-and-rubbish/reusing-and-other-recycling-services/recycling-events-westminster) .
