ACTIVE WESTMINSTER AWARDS ARE BACK:  Nominations are now open for the 2024 Active Westminster Awards �� These annual awards recognise those who change lives through their outstanding contribution to physical activity, leisure and sport. Helping us to create a fairer Westminster and making our city a great place to get and stay active.

We need your nominations to spotlight the individuals and organisations making a difference, check out the nine categories and submit your nomination before midnight 29 September.

SUNSHINE, MUSIC AND DANCING: Over the long weekend the streets of West London came alive once again to celebrate Europe’s biggest street party – Notting Hill Carnival! Did you miss it this year, or just want to relive the celebration? Take a look at our wrap up video from across the weekend to see the incredible costumes, dancing, and of course food!

Congratulations to Mangrove Mas Band who scored the top spot with their incredible steel drum performance and won the national Panorama competition - a big thanks to all those that took part.

POST-EVENT MEETING: You’re invited to a post-carnival residents’ meeting on 5 September, drop in between 7pm to 9pm, at the Tabernacle (W11 2AY). Talk to the organisers, ask questions and share your thoughts. No need to sign up, just come down and take part.

LOVE IN WESTMINSTER: It's just over one month until the 100th anniversary of Old Marylebone Town Hall, where 100 couples will say their vows at the famous venue for £100, a tenth of the average fee. TIME TO GAME: The Games Library, launched in November 2023, has evolved beyond loanable games to include a variety of regular activities for all ages by increasing access to tabletop gaming, in collaboration with local organisations, to meet residents' interests. Research has shown that the use of tabletop games has helped vulnerable children and young people engage with therapy, prevent school exclusion and support those with Special Educational Needs and disabilities.

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS: It’s ‘know your numbers’ week! It’s all about making sure you know your blood pressure so that, if it’s high, you can make sure you get the treatment you need to bring it under control. The NHS are offering blood pressure checks at our health pop-ups – no appointment needed.

As well as blood pressure checks, you can get:
* blood sugar level checks
* BMI checks
* health and wellbeing advice
* conversations about MMR and the upcoming autumn vaccines

The next pop-ups are taking place from the 4 September.
