CRACKING DOWN ON PEDICABS: We're pleased to be seeing the progress that we have been pushing hard for in order to crackdown on nuisance pedicabs. Transport for London (TfL) Commissioner Andy Lord has confirmed that a consultation on new pedicab regulations will begin in the New Year. For far too long, unruly pedicabs have been causing noise and frustration for local residents, while tourists have been overcharged.

COLD WEATHER ADVICE: As the cold weather sets in, we are offering support and advice to help you stay safe and warm this winter. From emergency accommodation to financial assistance, there are resources available for those in need. ARMISTICE DAY: On Monday we paid our respects and reflected on the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women and honoured those who have died in the line of duty during the First World War. The Lord of Westminster, Cllr Robert Rigby, said: “On Monday I laid a wreath outside Westminster City Hall just before 11am to mark the moment the guns fell silent. While we pause to think about historic conflicts and those former servicemen and women who may suffer in private long after the conflict is over, this is a powerful and public way to show our thanks.”


Wreaths were also laid by The Leader of the Council Adam Hug, Chief Executive Stuart Love, and representatives from the Faith Network and Trade Unions.

IMPROVING AIR QUALITY: We are piloting a new kerbside booking system on Abbey Orchard Street and Russell Street, allowing delivery drivers to reserve parking bays in advance. This 18-month trial, in partnership with Grid Smarter Cities, aims to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and create safer streets by encouraging greener last-mile delivery options like walking and cargo bikes.

HOUSING RECYCLING BINS: We’ve launched new recycling bins as part of our Estates Recycling Infrastructure project, starting with Lisson Green. Next up is Churchill Gardens, where 62 units will be installed in the coming weeks. Look out for leaflets and posters around the estate to guide you on recycling more effectively.

IMPROVING HOUSING CONDITIONS: This week, 11 social housing providers joined us to launch the Westminster Housing Compact. The compact aims to address the housing crisis by improving conditions, tackling issues like homelessness and anti-social behaviour, and securing investment to enhance housing across the borough. Councillor Liza Begum will lead a quarterly leadership group, starting February 2025, ensuring the voices of Westminster’s residents remain at the heart of these efforts.

SHINE BRIGHT, WESTMINSTER: This past week has been filled with festive cheer as we celebrated the festive season with our wonderful communities. We kicked off the celebrations at Covent Garden's magical Christmas light switch-on, followed by the Soho Kids Christmas where families enjoyed fun activities and entertainment. Merry Marylebone brought joy to the heart of the area, and we gathered at Christchurch Gardens for another beautiful light switch-on. To cap it all off, don’t miss the Belgravia Christmas light switch-on this Sunday at Elizabeth Street—stop by for some holiday spirit and a mince pie or two!
