LOVE WINS: On Tuesday, The Old Marylebone Town Hall marked its 100th anniversary by hosting 100 ceremonies for 100 couples celebrating their love through weddings, civil partnerships, and vow renewals. 43 registrars, 14 ushers, seven managers and three housekeepers were busy making sure every ceremony was special. CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY: Black History Month is back, with this year’s theme being ‘Reclaiming Narratives’. We will be shining a light on stories, allegories and histories to correct inaccuracies and showcase the untold success stories of Black Heritage.

NEW HOUSING OFFICE FOR SOHO: We’ve opened a new Housing Service Centre on Broadwick Street in Soho. It’s a new hub for the local community, providing a welcoming space for residents to speak with our housing staff. This is our fourth new centre in the past 18 months, following offices in Queen’s Park, Pimlico and Bayswater, bringing the total to eight across the city. They are an important step in improving our housing services and bringing them closer to our residents.

SILVER SUNDAY CELEBRATIONS: We kicked off our Silver Sunday celebrations with our annual visits to care homes across Westminster. Residents were treated to delightful performances by the Chelsea Ballet, with guests including the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Butler-Thalassis, and Older People’s Champion, Cllr Southern. We’d also like to extend our warmest wishes to Benjamin, a care home resident, on his 100th birthday – what a milestone!

GET ONLINE: Did you know it’s Get Online Week from 14 to 20 October? In the UK, 14 million people lack basic digital skills, like turning on a device, using an internet browser, or operating a mouse and keyboard. Additionally, 1 in 20 households don’t have internet access, leading to digital exclusion. This contributes to isolation, as being online helps people stay connected, access services, and save money.

To combat this, we’re hosting digital helper sessions at our libraries. Our volunteers can help you or a loved one learn online basics and plan for future activities. Join us to get connected and fight loneliness!

MAIDA HILL NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN: The Maida Hill Neighbourhood Forum has submitted a plan covering commercial development, affordable housing, design, heritage, transport and the local environment. If approved, it will become part of our official development plan and guide planning decisions in the area, alongside council and London-wide planning documents. You can learn more and give feedback until 11 November.

AUTUMN VACCINES: Are you eligible for a flu or COVID-19 vaccination? Vaccines are our best protection against flu and COVID-19. Both viruses spread more easily in winter when we spend more time indoors and can cause serious illness. Vaccinations are available if you’re:
* 65+
* you have a long-term condition, are immunocompromised or live with someone who is
* a carer, frontline health and social care worker
* pregnant
* a child aged 2 to 17 through their GP or at school.
