MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS: Free training is transforming barbershops into safe spaces where young men can comfortably discuss their emotions. Barbers learn to spot mental health struggles and provide support on issues such as loneliness. Many shops have already completed the training such as Raisa’s Barbers on Harrow Road who say they are “thrilled to support Trim Talk”.

YOUR EXPERIENCE MATTERS: With 1 in 50 London households experiencing homelessness, we know we need to address the root causes. Our draft strategy (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=197bdceabc&e=7e37558eca) includes:
* more support for people at risk of homelessness
* closer working with public services such as GP surgeries, schools and libraries
* strengthening partnership working across London
* better support for people experiencing multiple disadvantage and trauma.

Our goal is to make real progress toward ending rough sleeping, while doing more to prevent homelessness and support those at risk of losing their homes.

RECLAIMING NARRATIVES: “Black History Month isn’t just a celebration, it’s a reminder that our past can shape the future,” says Mariam, one of our Youth Council members on the significance of celebrating Black History. “By listening to each other and honouring Black history, we can inspire the next generation and build a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.”

SILVER SUNDAY AND THE TEA DANCE: Last weekend, Westminster celebrated Silver Sunday with many events taking place across the city, including afternoon teas, care home visits, arts and crafts classes, walking tours, and an amazing dog show at Paddington Recreation Ground just to name a few. Thank you to all the volunteers and organisations that hosted events and made the day fun-filled for everyone.

HIDDEN POPULATION: In partnership with The Learning Disability Network, we have opened a new Enablement Hub at Victoria Library. The hub helps learning-disabled and autistic people manage their lives through workshops on life skills, health, finance and safety. The program expands support for those receiving little to no assistance, offering activities and opportunities to build friendships.

OVER 600 CANDY SHOP ITEMS HEADED TO THE INCINERATOR:
We have seized 676 banned items from an Oxford Street candy shop. The haul included American cereals, crisps, and drinks with dangerous additives, e-numbers, and illegal ingredients.

COMMUNITY MOBILE RECYCLING CENTRE: Do you have any unused household items that need recycling but you’re not sure how? Many things such as pots and pans, electrical items and textiles end up in the wrong recycling bins or the rubbish. To make it easier, we’re bringing our award-winning Community Mobile Recycling Centre to a street near you!

GET ONLINE: Next week is, Get Online Week! In the UK, 14 million people lack basic digital skills, like turning on a device and using an internet browser. Additionally, 1 in 20 households don’t have internet access, leading to digital exclusion and isolation. Being online helps people stay connected, access services and save money. We’re hosting digital helper sessions at our libraries where volunteers can help you learn basics and plan for future activities.
