Over more than two decades at ASL, Pete Lutkoski P ’35 (ASL 2003-present) has done it all: Starting out as a middle and high school music teacher at age 26, he went on to become a department head, middle school assistant principal and, in 2015, principal. In his final semester on the job, we sit down with Pete to hear about his path from Oberlin Conservatory to One Waverley Place—and a little bit about what’s coming next. Looking back at Big Apple fun—and ahead to next week’s London quiz night!

Young grads kicked things off with a group dinner on the Upper West Side hosted by Terry Gladis P ’27 ’30 (ASL 1998-present) and Head of School Matt Horvat (ASL 2023-present). Then, on Tuesday, more than 150 alumni, parents, former faculty, and friends filled a buzzing Tribeca restaurant for drinks, reconnections and school spirit—thank you for showing up, New York!

The Class of 1964 celebrates 60

The Class of 1964 came together at San Diego’s Rancho Bernardo Inn in February to celebrate 60 years since graduating from ASL! The group met for drinks on a rainy Thursday evening—although the weather couldn't dampen their spirits—and the next night, they enjoyed a long and festive evening together, complete with a buffet, speeches, life catch-ups long overdue, and numerous additional arrivals. Many thanks to reunion organizers Charles Scudder ’64 , Richard Weiner ’64 , James McConkie ’64 and Chaddie (Bruckman) Kruger ’64 for pulling this smashing success of an event together!

Oonagh Stransky ’85 , a longtime translator of Italian literature to English, translated “Tortoiseshell,” a short story by Domenico Starnone for the 28 April edition of The New Yorker. It's a brilliantly translated piece about the power of—who else!?—the translator. Amy Scanlan ’86 has been living in Denver, Colorado, ever since finishing her residency in family medicine there in 1999. Twenty-five years on, she still sees patients one day a week, in addition to serving as chief medical officer for Trinsic, a clinically integrated network in the area. Amy and her husband, Dave, have two children: Cole, who recently graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design, and Maggie, a sophomore at Northeastern. Amy would love to reconnect with old ASL friends; particularly those who participated in Music Tours in Poland and Vienna in the mid-80s! After working on Netflix series The Diplomat in London for two seasons, Elaine Ivy Harris ’04 traveled with the production to New York as an associate producer for season three—and was surprised to discover that Jackie Wertz ’07 had joined the crew as assistant prop master! In this photo, the two Eagles smile together on set shooting the season three finale.
















Evan Reilly ’12 gathered 2010s-era alumni from around London for a nostalgic pub night at St. John's Wood's very own Duke of York at the end of March. Kate, who recently moved from CNN to Bloomberg as a White House correspondent, was the one who scooped Sophie up and helped return her safely to her owner.

John Towfighi ’20 graduated from Columbia College in May 2024 and began his career in journalism shortly thereafter. He joined CNN as a reporter based in the network’s New York bureau, where he contributes to the business journalism team, covering US markets and finance. Prior to his current role, John interned with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS program and the network’s business team. He also contributed freelance reporting to CNN, covering student protests on college campuses.

We were saddened to learn recently of the passing of Rich Bremer ’85 in October 2022. Rich, who attended ASL from 1978 to 1983, was passionate and curious about the natural world and sciences, and spent his career in geographic information systems. A lifelong lover of sports and a devoted father and husband, Rich is dearly missed.

We mourn the loss of Renee Keys ’75 , who passed away in April 2023. In her time at ASL, Renee was a track and field runner and captain of the varsity swim team. Renee went on to study computer science, pursued a career in data and information technology, and raised her family in Texas, where she was also a devoted member and volunteer in her church community.
