LOOKING FLUSH: We’ve just opened our newly refurbished public toilets on Victoria Embankment – the first of eight! This is part of our £12.7m investment to upgrade and refresh public toilets across Westminster, ensuring cleaner, modern and accessible facilities for everyone. All the toilets will feature stunning artworks by artist James Lambert, bringing colourful patterned motifs inspired by the local area.
Check this out at your convenience! (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=7c2fa37c41&e=7e37558eca)

THE PEDESTRIANISATION OF OXFORD STREET: The announcement regarding the Mayoral plans for Oxford Street is a step forward in what has been a long-running issue for London. We all share a commitment in making sure the nation’s high street has a bright future, one that brings benefits locally, regionally and nationally.

Since the announcement was made to create a Mayoral Development Corporation to pedestrianise Oxford Street, we have been working hard to ensure that the voices of residents and businesses are heard. The Mayor’s team has taken on board our feedback and agreed a number of improvements in response to our concerns.

DOCKLESS BIKES: We are proposing to make parking bays for hire e-bikes permanent following an 18-month trial. The network of 350 physical and virtual parking bays was introduced across the City of Westminster since 2023 as part of a e-bike parking bays trial (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=54fa7f4fd6&e=7e37558eca) , with the aim of reducing the number of abandoned bikes blocking pavements and creating safety hazards for disabled and partially sighted pedestrians. Since 2023, we have repurposed hundreds of underused car parking bays and introduced geo-fenced ‘virtual’ bays. We are now proposing to make 177 physical bays permanent parking spaces for hire e-bikes.

HOUSING INSPECTION RESULT: The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has confirmed that Westminster City Council has achieved a C1 rating following an inspection of our housing services. This is the highest possible rating, indicating that we meet the consumer standards set by the regulator and effectively address and resolve problems when they are identified. Westminster is the first Local Authority in London to achieve this rating to date.
