STAYING SAFE IN HOT WEATHER: As the temperatures rise, we are working with our partners to ensure that people who are rough sleeping are able to access services to keep them safe (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=fdb3e990a4&e=7e37558eca) . Over the weekend The Connection at St Martin’s (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=f8143f19bf&e=7e37558eca) will stay open later and offer 45 beds for people in need of a cool space overnight. During this time, we will also be doing more outreach offering water, sunscreen and signposting people to day centres.
Top tips for staying cool:
* Stay hydrated: drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration. There are a number of fountains around Westminster (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=01defffce7&e=7e37558eca) where you can get water or refill your water bottle.
* If you’re inside on a very hot day: close curtains and windows if it’s hotter outside than in your home and turn off electrical equipment and lights that get hot. This helps to keep your home cool.
* Dress appropriately: wear loose, light-coloured clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and UV-protective sunglasses.
* Avoid peak sun hours: stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm when the sun is strongest.
* Use sunscreen: apply sunscreen and reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
* If you’re worried about someone sleeping rough, contact StreetLink (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=7435a0b80e&e=7e37558eca) via app, or call 0300 500 0914.
Stay safe and help others keep cool this summer.

THEATRE FOR EVERY CHILD: We're proud to announce our support for the Society of London Theatre’s (SOLT) ‘Theatre for Every Child’ campaign. The campaign advocates the right for every child to experience and enjoy world-leading theatre, regardless of their background. This is why we worked with SOLT to enable over 140 local school children to enjoy ‘My Neighbour Totoro’ at the Gillian Lynne Theatre for free. As Westminster is home to the world’s best theatre productions, this cause aligns to our vision to not only make theatre more accessible, but to help create pathways where young people are able to enjoy a career in the arts also.

SWEET SUCCESS: The number of US candy stores on Oxford Street has dropped to the lowest ever figure of 16 from a pandemic high of 40. Seizures of unsafe goods plus relentless pursuit of unpaid business rates is making life tough for unscrupulous traders.
