SALUTING OUR ARMED FORCES: Today, we raised the Armed Forces Day flag to mark the contribution of all those, past and present, who have served our country, ahead of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 28 June. We are also proud to score green on Royal British Legion’s new interactive council map, a great reflection of the changes we've made to better support veterans.

WEST END LIVE CELEBRATES 20 YEARS: West End Live returned to Trafalgar Square for its 20th anniversary on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June, drawing thousands of theatre lovers to the heart of Westminster to enjoy world-class musical performances. This year’s line-up featured over 60 performances with a mix of beloved classics and recent hits, delivering an unforgettable showcase of the most iconic songs across all West End musicals. And, for the first time, working alongside our power provider, Film and TV Services, the entire event was powered by 100% green energy using grid-supplied electricity, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and state-of-the-art Stage V backup generators.
You can enjoy this year's highlights on YouTube (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=4c3fac731c&e=7e37558eca)

PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE WINDRUSH GENERATION: This year’s Westbourne Forum summer festival was dedicated to celebrating the contribution the Windrush generation and their descendants have made. Speaking on Windrush Day (June 22) at the festival, the Lord Mayor of Westminster said: “Our City and our country would be in a much worse state without their work. But their contribution goes far beyond simply their labour. They have helped build our communities, enriched our culture, and made Westminster a better place to live.” Joining the celebrations with the Lord Mayor was local celebrity Jama Elmi (pictured above), who goes by the unofficial title of “London’s Best Dressed Man”.

STAYING WELL IN HOT WEATHER: Temperatures are hotting up this weekend. It’s important to take extra care in the heat, especially if you or someone you know is vulnerable. MORE SUPPORT FOR OUR COMMUNITIES: Beethoven Centre in Queen’s Park is being bought by the council, to protect and improve local community services in the area. The centre will offer affordable space for local groups, charities, and services such as health advice, housing support, and community events. It will also help smaller organisations find a permanent base in the area.

SUPPORT FOR PEDICAB REGULATION IN LONDON: Transport for London (TfL) has published the results of its consultation on regulating pedicabs — showing strong public backing for tighter controls. A striking 75% of respondents said they did not feel safe using pedicabs in London, highlighting the urgent need for change.
Councillor Aicha Less, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Public Protection, said: "We look forward to seeing TfL’s proposals to regulate pedicabs - a long-overdue step to tackle the disruption they cause, particularly in the West End. Pedicabs have operated without proper oversight for too long, bringing noise, safety risks and rip-off fares to Westminster’s streets. A proper licensing scheme can’t come soon enough. We’ll back TfL every step of the way to get this done quickly and make sure the voices of residents, businesses and visitors are heard loud and clear."

CELEBRATING SUSTAINABILITY THIS SUMMER: A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at our Sustainable City Charter Summer Showcase, organised in partnership with WPA and hosted by the inspiring ZSL London Zoo. To coincide with London Climate Action Week (21-29 June), we welcomed over 100 representatives from organisations across Westminster, both current and prospective Charter members, for a morning of insight and collaboration about the practical steps we can all take to help Westminster achieve net zero by 2040.

WESTMINSTER ANCHOR ALLIANCE REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL: Last week, leaders from Westminster's major employers gathered at the Houses of Parliament to chart the next phase of the Westminster Anchor Alliance – a voluntary partnership of major employers and organisations rooted in Westminster to address some of the most pressing challenges to our communities. Alliance partners have reaffirmed their commitment and pledged to expand access to good jobs and skills development for residents facing barriers. Working with organisations across the public, private, VCSE and educational sectors, the Alliance looks forward to continuing its work to make Westminster a fairer city by supporting our residents and strengthening our local economy.
Alliance partners were delighted to be joined by MPs Georgia Gould, Rachel Blake and Joe Powel, who shared their insights on how we can work together to amplify our collective impact. Special thanks to Georgia Gould and Rachel Blake for kindly hosting us at Portcullis House. Details of our full commitments will be published soon – stay tuned for updates.

YOUR VIEWS ON KEEPING OUR SPACES SAFE: Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPO) are intended to deal with persistent anti-social behaviour in a local area that is detrimental to the community’s quality of life. They do so by imposing conditions on the use of that area to ensure everyone can enjoy public spaces without experiencing nuisance and annoyance. We are currently seeking your views on three of these orders:
* On-street anti-social behaviour in South Westminster
* Expanding the nuisance vehicle PSPO to cover a wider area; and
* Problematic behaviours associated with Pedicabs
Share your feedback on all three here (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=d69de66ae1&e=7e37558eca)
