CELEBRATING SILVER SUNDAY 2025: The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Paul Dimoldenberg, joined residents this week taking part in different events for Silver Sunday, from ‘secret’ walks to visiting our care homes with members of Chelsea Ballet. The annual programme of activities for seniors is aimed at tackling loneliness and isolation as well as connecting local communities. The full list of more than 70 events taking place throughout October can be found on the Silver Sunday website (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=aca9d64823&e=7e37558eca) .

“Silver Sunday is vital for our Westminster residents who might not be as mobile as they used to be,” said the Lord Mayor. ”Loneliness amongst the elderly is a very real issue, so events this week and throughout October are a chance for older residents to connect with their communities and across generations. Being able to meet residents and see them enjoy themselves at the huge variety of events has been great. We are lucky that so many interesting people call Westminster home.”

CRACKING DOWN ON ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR: We’ve stepped up our campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour in Victoria, with over 200 interventions in less than two months. Our street-based teams, supported by police, have targeted drug dealing, aggressive begging, street drinking, and public urination across Victoria Street, Strutton Ground and nearby areas. Since August, we’ve engaged with 240 individuals or groups, moved people on 114 times, issued ten verbal warnings, and served ten formal notices. Police support has led to six arrests. Where possible, we direct rough sleepers and vulnerable people to services such as The Passage for shelter and addiction support. Cllr Aicha Less, Cabinet Member for Public Protection, said: “You should not have to walk past drug dealers or live in fear of aggressive beggars. That’s why we’re taking continual action against persistent offenders.”
WE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT TACKLING ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR (ASB)
We’re currently gathering evidence from residents to share with the police and inform our next steps. If you have witnessed, or been a victim of ASB, in your area, from abusive behaviour, to drug dealing and persistent noise disturbances let us know. Share your experience and help make a difference.

WESTMINSTER LAUNCHES MULTI-APP PARKING: Motorists in Westminster can now choose between three apps when paying to park: our existing provider RingGo, and now JustPark and PayByPhone. We’re the first local authority in London to launch a multi-operator system for paying to park. This means motorists can pick the app they prefer, creating real competition between providers to offer the smoothest service and best prices, and maximising the proportion of parking revenue that goes to improving local transport infrastructure such as more accessible pavements, safe cycling infrastructure, and bus lanes.
