The History of the Jews of the Arab Lands

Journalist and author Lyn Julius discusses her ground breaking Jewish Quarterly essay with Trudy Gold, exploring what happened to the vast diaspora of Jewish communities that lived across the Middle East and North Africa for thousands of years.

In this free online event, Lyn examines the historical status of Jews under Islamic rule, and how rising nationalism and antisemitism contributed to their displacement.

Letters from the Afterlife:

Goldie Morgentaler in conversation

Goldie Morgentaler discusses Letters from the Afterlife, the moving correspondence between her mother, the acclaimed Yiddish writer Chava Rosenfarb, and fellow survivor and novelist Zenia Larsson.

Having survived the Łódź Ghetto and Bergen-Belsen, the two friends went on to write in different languages while sustaining their lifelong friendship through personal letters written in Polish, the language of their childhood. Join us to explore this powerful collection in this free online event.

James Joyce’s Ulysses:

A novel of Two Peoples

James Joyce’s novel Ulysses follows Jewish Dubliner Leopold Bloom on his odyssey around the city. Joyce described his book as ‘a novel of two peoples, the Irish and the Jewish’. Don’t miss this special event, featuring Eimear McBride, Zachary Leader and Toby Lichtig.

And the winner is…

In partnership with Green Bean Books, we’re delighted to reveal that the JLF-Genesis Emerging Writer alumnus Alison Green has won this year’s Jewish Children’s Book Award. Her winning story, Marv’s Luncheonette, is about a Jewish restaurant owner having a very bad day. The prize celebrates new, unpublished works for young children based on Jewish history, values or tradition.
