While there has been no direct threat to the School or our community, the welfare of our students, faculty and staff remains our top priority, and therefore, it has been necessary to continually review our security provision. Since the fall of 2015, we have regularly taken advice from our security team, local embassies, and expert consultants, and developed a comprehensive plan to gradually implement a number of new measures resulting in our current robust security program. These have included investments in our campus, technology, manned guarding and a review of our procedures and protocols. For understandable reasons, we have done so quietly, and with minimal disruption to our facilities and operations.<br><br>The next stage of this work is the major renovation of the Waverley Place entrance. The new design plans include a remodeled frontage, a lift for easier access for wheelchair users and families with prams, and shelter from the weather for students awaiting pick-up. New design elements will also allow for a better screening process for visitors entering the building. While designed to be aesthetically pleasing, the changes to the front entrance will also enhance the security of our school and better protect our community.<br><br>Construction begins on Monday, 18 June, and should be completed by the end of the calendar year. Throughout the works, the Waverley Place entrance will be closed for access to the School. Plans for a temporary alternative entrance and safe bus drop-off and pick-up have been carefully developed. We will share this important information with all families closer to the opening of the 2018-19 school year. Throughout the construction period, we will keep you updated on the latest news, campus access, and security protocols.<br><br>All of the recent security enhancements, including the Waverley entrance project, have been funded through the generosity of a number of donors in our community. We are extremely grateful to those whose commitment to security at ASL has made these works possible.
