Our final Ofsted report has arrived, and there is much to celebrate. After a thorough and comprehensive inspection process, ASL received top marks in all areas. The final report includes examples of practices that make evident the ways in which ASL faculty and staff strive to enact the school’s mission every day. Your support is so important to ASL’s success.<br><br>Chris Almond, who has served as ASL’s Director of Finance for the past 24 years, will be retiring this summer. Chris’s leadership at ASL has been essential to ASL’s successful growth over the years. He has established ASL’s annual budgeting processes, ensured financial planning to support campus development efforts, and overseen the successful investment of ASL’s endowment for more than two decades. Finding a successor for Chris has been no small task, but I am pleased to announce the appointment of John Robinson to this role. John joins ASL with a strong track record in the education sector, and significant experience in charitable trust work. Currently the interim CFO of Royal Holloway, University of London, he previously served for 8 years as the finance director of Brunel University London, where he worked closely with the executive board and managed long- and short-term financial strategies related to significant growth in an era of changing income streams. John was educated in the UK and the US, having completed a doctorate of philosophy of mind at Oxford University, and a masters in public administration at Rutgers University while on a Fulbright Scholarship. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and will be made an Honorary Fellow of Brunel University in July 2018. John will join ASL on 1 July 2018.<br><br>Our admissions office has had a very busy spring. Re-enrollment at ASL is at a record high of 91% to date, and we received close to 1,000 completed applications for the 2018-19 school year. We look forward to welcoming new ASL families to our community with a series of social and orientation events that begin this month. Students continue to work hard and strive to excel. This weekend’s marvellous high school music concert at St. Mary’s in Marylebone was a true celebration of our students’ efforts and their recent return from music trips to Barcelona and Paris. On Sunday, ASL’s students, faculty, staff and parents participated in community service volunteer work across London. Middle school robotics competitors have just returned from the World Championships in Detroit, Michigan. Our athletic teams practice daily in preparation for regular competitions culminating in the ISST tournament weekends; we will be hosting baseball and softball tournaments at Canons Park the weekend of 26 May.
