These statements emerged from the Grade 11 portion of the information session a couple weeks ago. I hope you recognize yourself in these excerpts from your parents’ comments:<br><br>The prompt was: “Please give an example of something you are proud of in your child.”<br><br><ul><li>“My daughter’s resilience.”</li><li>“.... for being thoughtful in his choices. Classes to take, how best to study, who to hang out with - all being decided with deliberation and care.”</li><li>“I am proud of his work ethic, his sense of family, his love of community service…”</li><li>“I’m proud of my daughter for becoming brave! She is willing to try new things and even fail. And learn from it.”</li><li>“... her tenacity…”</li><li>“He has a kind heart. I love him.”</li><li>“I totally trust his process will work for him”</li><li>“How disciplined and committed you have become in achieving what you want”</li><li>“My daughter has found her voice as an individual”</li></ul><br>I write these partly to let you all know just how many of us are cheering you on. Bring calculators, snacks and water.<br><br>The Preliminary SAT (PSAT) is the practice test for the SAT. It is an opportunity for students to take a practice college entrance test, and it allows them to become familiar with a standardized test format. There is no additional fee for taking this test. Students in Grade 11 are typically expected to take the PSAT in the fall. However, as the test falls during October Break this year, we acknowledge that some families have already made travel plans for the Break, and therefore, some juniors will be unable to test. There is no make-up date for the PSAT, but neither is there a penalty for not taking the PSAT, so those students who are unable to make it on the 13th will be excused. Juniors who do not test this year may not be eligible for <a href="https://www.nationalmerit.org/s/1758/interior.aspx?sid=1758&gid=2&pgid=424">National Merit Scholarship</a> consideration, but can <a href="https://www.nationalmerit.org/s/1758/interior.aspx?sid=1758&gid=2&pgid=398#miss">contact NMSC directly</a> to inquire about alternate eligibility. Note: National Merit Scholarship programs are open to U.S. citizens & permanent residents only.<br><br><strong>Save the Date for the 5th Annual Grade 11 Lock-in!<br></strong>The date is Saturday, November 17th, from 7:00pm to the next morning. We will attend the play all together to support our thespians and then move into other events of the night. Typically, we’ve had lots of food, karaoke, gaming, dodgeball, board games, basketball, fort-building, movies, and every year there’s been some new twist on the evening. Just fyi, there will be a quiet space for those who need to sleep and a “release time” for those who don’t want to stay all night. <br><br></p> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <table class="main" width="640" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" align="center" > <tr class="social-icons" align="left" bgcolor="#F47A20"> <td align="left" style="padding: 10px 30px; font-family: arial;"> <a href="https://www.facebook.com/americanschoolinlondon" target="_blank" style="text-align: center; text-decoration: none; margin-right: 5px;"> <img src="http://www.asl.org/uploaded/Misc_design/facebook_white.png" border="0" width="40" height="40"/> </a> <a href="https://twitter.com/aslnews" target="_blank" style="text-align: center; text-decoration: none; margin-right: 5px;"> <img src="http://www.asl.org/uploaded/Misc_design/twitter_white.png" border="0" width="40" height="40"/> </a> <a href="https://www.instagram.com/asinlondon/" target="_blank" style="text-align: center; text-decoration: none; margin-right: 5px;"> <img src="http://www.asl.org/uploaded/Misc_design/insta_white.png" border="0" width="40" height="40"/> </a> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" style="color: #FFFFFF; padding: 10px 30px; font-family: arial;" bgcolor="#F47A20"> <span style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 16px;">The American School in London</span><br> One Waverley Place<br> London NW8 0NP<br> <br> <a href="www.asl.org" style="color: #FFFFFF;">www.asl.org</a><br> <br> <a href="https://family.veracross.eu/asl/subscription/manage?key=eyJobWFjIjoiYjc2ZjZlMmRhMjA3MGIzMmFlNDQ2MTE1Mjg4NjY2ZWNhMjBlOGFkMCIsImRhdGFiYXNlIjoiYXNsX2RhdGFiYXNlIiwiZXhwaXJhdGlvbiI6IjIwMTgtMTAtMTVUMTY6MDE6MDBaIiwicGVyc29uX3BrIjoiMTcxNDYifQ==" target="_blank" style="color: #FFFFFF;"></a> <br> <p style="font-size: 10px;"></p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="main" width="640" height="30"> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <img width="1px" height="1px" alt="" src="http://email.mail2.veracross.com/o/eJw9jjsOgzAQRE8Tl9Yu2AYXLiCCayCzbISF-chOkHL7QJNiipknjd7kkIw2pThpODjlfRt49SEOx-K00qg1iNnVOFkEqmFkVAxTNSIgEaKiSrFlEVwBWCMAorliJcre9rZp2vbZYWk7qB4K7uNCnpw8pT1nSfsqknv5NcTvhWcOWwo0X7v8LLcRxcDb2_kc7_YXM4VS9gfvuzj2"></body> </html>
