This book has been made into the hit musical “Come From Away,” now playing in London. It tells the story of what happened in a small village on the east coast of Canada on 9/11—when all planes were ordered to land, wherever they were, and 38 jetliners landed in Gander, Newfoundland. Such an extraordinary reception was given to the thousands of travelers landing in the area that day, that many return to vacation with their former hosts and new friends. Do join us: fun and free. We meet to discuss the book on Monday, 16 September, in a home near Kensington High Street. For 400 years, the two cultures rubbed shoulders on this small island. When the Romans departed, they left behind a lasting legacy, although historians disagree on the degree of their influence. Join us for this two-session course to discuss this fascinating subject. We’ll read Power and Stone, written by Alice Leader, (published by Penguin, and originally written for Grade 6 students at ASL!), and go on two trips: 26 September to St. Albans (Verulamium) and 7 November to Butser Ancient Farm, Hampshire, an experimental archaeological site of an ancient Briton village. Course cost is £100 and classes take place on 31 October and 6 November, at St. Mark’s Church, Hamilton Terrace, 10 am-12 noon. Trips will be charged separately. <a href="http://email.mail3.veracross.com/c/eJxVkUuPqkAUhH-N7iTdTfPoBQvwcRVEGJWrsiHQNIKANs1DnF9_9S4mmaRykqovOYuq1MgUouFsOtCIM9E-7hGr46KKeGmoWFM1AKa5kSYEo1iVZTWjCYw1NU6VFANVVyhjOtGnlZF3HZ_I5gSt3vr_QvocJA1MxFQ82laij_rN6IfbT3LTu36cm-4-0WvNvIRz22xPyzEbxvVILR5Yhb2xZyKrQP7XPs08gc6a5Xp6WTZfHBIkHLm09jri9TlyS_4EplW6ausuNrvvfu4c2RV6jV4rNHze20W-PfJteKt3w1W7-pHjn1moBV2530bsO4hWodM3J3wpaDJ0u_GAcnEbaifJLnsd_CkwterAmV9W6-fy1eQzBmkMNz0-yttDtA4uOGs88EpPKur4LROvze5Ea9f3g0e_7Y8DaJNIVErqQ1kcvTEjKir7cLiuGFcO9nVaGAhAAghEEGOkYAlKsrJAZKmsoIwVstDhBINPnfLvOqfCyOK6qF5vnLPiLgqav3OpLz970qpg986I2-rjfmbVMEToH8OjpPU">Sign up now.</a></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></li><li><span style=""><span style=""><span style="font-size: 14px;"><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><span style=""><a href="http://email.mail3.veracross.com/c/eJxVkUuPqkAUhH-N7iTdTfPoBQvwcRVEGJWrsiHQNIKANs1DnF9_9S4mmaRykqovOYuq1MgUouFsOtCIM9E-7hGr46KKeGmoWFM1AKa5kSYEo1iVZTWjCYw1NU6VFANVVyhjOtGnlZF3HZ_I5gSt3vr_QvocJA1MxFQ82laij_rN6IfbT3LTu36cm-4-0WvNvIRz22xPyzEbxvVILR5Yhb2xZyKrQP7XPs08gc6a5Xp6WTZfHBIkHLm09jri9TlyS_4EplW6ausuNrvvfu4c2RV6jV4rNHze20W-PfJteKt3w1W7-pHjn1moBV2530bsO4hWodM3J3wpaDJ0u_GAcnEbaifJLnsd_CkwterAmV9W6-fy1eQzBmkMNz0-yttDtA4uOGs88EpPKur4LROvze5Ea9f3g0e_7Y8DaJNIVErqQ1kcvTEjKir7cLiuGFcO9nVaGAhAAghEEGOkYAlKsrJAZKmsoIwVstDhBINPnfLvOqfCyOK6qF5vnLPiLgqav3OpLz970qpg986I2-rjfmbVMEToH8OjpPU"></a></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span><strong>A Caledonian Adventure</strong> (8 sessions, full course, with two-day trip) <br>The luxuriously refurbished Caledonian Sleeper trains are now on the rails, with attractive bedrooms, with en suite facilities, and cocktails and fine dining in the Club car. We travel on the night of Wednesday 23 October, enjoy a grand Thursday in Aberdeen, and return overnight, arriving back in London on Friday, 25 October. This will be an experience of a lifetime! You have the choice of taking the class on either Wednesdays or Fridays, 10 am-12 noon, from 11 September until 1 November. The same class will be taught both days. Wednesday classes take place at St. Mark’s Church, Hamilton Terrace, while Friday classes take place at Alice’s house in Queen’s Park. We’ll read parts of Roman Britain, a New History by Guy de la Bedoyere, and Power and Stone by Alice Leader, set around 122AD in fort Vercovicium (aka Housesteads), the central fort of the Wall.
