<p style="margin-bottom: 1em;"><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
To select the future Head of School, we will follow a typical process, including the formation of a search committee and the engagement of an external search firm. These searches normally take time to complete and it is common for independent schools to appoint interim leadership during this period. We will have interim leadership in place at ASL from January 2022 until the new Head of School is appointed, which we expect will be for the 2023-24 school year.

<p style="margin-bottom: 1em;"><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
As you may be aware, there has been recent media coverage about ASL’s leadership, and the discussions our community has had about the role and impact of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in our program. </span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 1em;"><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
It is disappointing to us, and many other members of our community, to see internal conversations made public and deliberately misrepresented, leading to distorted media coverage. We are particularly concerned about the hostile coverage directed towards some of our leadership, administration and faculty. We support them, and each and every ASL employee.

<p style="margin-bottom: 1em;"><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">We firmly believe that open, respectful dialogue is the path forward to address differences. ASL has a long history of constructive debate and we are committed to listening to all members of our community with kindness, compassion and empathy.

Our DEI approach supports our mission and core values and remains one of our strategic priorities at ASL. Earlier this year, the Board sent a letter outlining an action plan to review and evolve our DEI curriculum and that work is being undertaken now.
