** UPCOMING EVENTS
------------------------------------------------------------

** Dealing with the Tragic in Life: Mahler, Judaism and Beyond
------------------------------------------------------------

In partnership with Fidelio and the Barbican, join us for a performance of Mahler’s Sixth Symphony, conducted by Raffaello Morales.

The symphony is often known as the “Tragic”. Yet it was composed during one of the happiest periods of the composer’s life. Why, then, did Mahler return so insistently to questions of suffering, fate and loss? And what can his music teach us about how we confront tragedy?

The evening will see Fidelio Orchestra’s performance of this extraordinary work, followed by Mahler experts Raffaello Morales and Edward Seckerson joining Anthony Freud OBE to discuss the power of art to illuminate life’s darkest experiences.

8 November, 5:45pm at Milton Court Concert Hall.

** BANALITY OF EVIL
------------------------------------------------------------

Julia Pascal, who joins us to run the Jewish Playwrights Programme, brings her new play The Banality of Evil to London for its world premiere. Blending satire, physical theatre and cabaret, the play follows three German Jewish women interned at Camp Gurs in 1940 - Hannah Arendt, the painter Charlotte Salomon and a Communist schoolgirl - to reveal forgotten histories of women caught between exile, imprisonment and survival.

Listen to Julia discuss the play ahead of its run at the Wiener Holocaust Library (https://wienerholocaustlibrary.org/event/playwright-talk-and-reading-the-banality-of-evil-hannah-arendt-france-1940-with-julia-pascal/) , on 3 September.
