** NEXT WEEK:

** October 7 in Graphic Novels
------------------------------------------------------------
What can the graphic novel reveal about trauma, memory and lived experience?
Israeli cartoonist Asaf Hanuka, co-creator of The Day Everything Changed: Ten Stories from October 7th, and writer and actor Omri Rose, co-author of Echoes of October, come together to talk about bringing the events and first-hand testimony of October 7 to the page.
In conversation with Jonathan Sandler, they'll compare their contrasting approaches to depicting October 7, and the obstacles they met on the road to publication.
13 October, free online talk, 6:30pm BST.

** Dealing with the Tragic in Life: Mahler, Judaism and Beyond
------------------------------------------------------------
Don’t miss this very special event in partnership with the Barbican and Fidelio, featuring a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 6 along with a pre-concert conversation on how artists respond to suffering.
With Mahler experts Raffaello Morales, Edward Seckerson and Anthony Freud OBE taking the stage, they’ll discuss whether tragedy can deepen our understanding of the world, and why Mahler’s vision continues to resonate so strongly in our own uncertain times.
8 November, Milton Court Concert Hall, The Barbican

A FESTIVAL FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Our youngest readers will have a place of their own at Jewish Book Week 2027, with author readings, our new children’s poetry competition and a special opportunity for young poets to take to the festival stage. We can’t wait to share all the wonderful new activities we’re planning for an unforgettable family experience.
CALLING ALL YOUNG POETS!
Know a child with a lively imagination and a love of words? Our Jewish Children’s Poetry Competition invites children aged five to eleven to write a poem on the theme of Adventure. We can’t wait to see where their words take them.
Twelve finalists will have their poems published in a special festival pamphlet and be invited to read them on stage at Jewish Book Week 2027. The overall winner and runner-up will also receive book tokens and certificates.
Entry is free and closes at midday on Friday 18 December 2026.
Run in partnership with the Jewish Chronicle.
