https://www.westminster.gov.uk/residents/floods/local-flood-risk-management-strategy
PROTECTING RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES FROM FLOODING: We are taking steps to prepare for and minimise the risk of flooding in the city. In July 2021, Maida Vale was severely impacted by flash flooding caused by extreme rainfall, meaning dozens of residents had to leave their homes while repairs were carried out. We have since worked closely with Thames Water to prepare for future incidents and to ensure residents and businesses are protected. This includes:
* Reviewing the gully maintenance strategy.
* Obtaining better information on areas in Westminster that are most at risk.
* Updating the council’s planning guidance.
* Working with Thames Water to identify measures for vulnerable basement dwellings.
* Exploring opportunities to slow down surface water runoff by delivering Sustainable Drainage Systems.
* Improving emergency response procedures for similar events in the future.
We have also recently launched a Flood Risk Survey (http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/WCCfloodrisksurvey/) aimed at local residents and businesses, and the responses will inform the development of the new Local Flood Risk Management Survey.
Complete the survey before 10 September (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/residents/floods/local-flood-risk-management-strategy)

RESIDENTS COMING TOGETHER: We all have a part to play in creating a Fairer Westminster and there are many ways you can get involved and share your views. Watch the video above (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJOR5_6qULo) to see how our residents are helping shape their housing services by joining our Residents’ Panel, offering feedback on how services are viewed and can making suggestions for improvements.

Recently, we held our annual Leasehold Conference (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/housing/leaseholders) at Churchill Gardens’ Community Hall. Residents met with our housing team and asked lots of questions about our services.
As part of our Fairer Westminster strategy anyone who lives, works or studies in Westminster is now invited to pose a question or present a petition in-person at Ordinary Full Council, this can be about a local issue or a wider question about the council. Find out more about public participation at Full Council meetings (https://www.westminster.gov.uk/about-council/democracy/public-participation-full-council-meetings) .

BE ALERT TO MEASLES: Measles is highly contagious and can lead to complications which require hospital treatment. Vaccines are our best line of defence and we’re calling on all parents and carers to make sure their children are up to date with their two MMR doses. If you’re not sure if your child is up to date, please check their Red Book or speak to your GP. It’s never too late to catch up, and you can get the MMR vaccine for free on the NHS whatever your age.
