FREE SCHOOL MEALS CONTINUE: We are committing £1.56 million to continue our free school lunches programme in nurseries and secondary schools in Westminster. In January 2023, we were one of the first local authorities in the UK to introduce free school lunches for all primary school aged children. In September 2023, due to the Mayor of London’s funding, we extended our support to nurseries and secondary schools. We estimate this support will save a family an estimated £550 per child per year. This helps our families during a cost-of-living crisis and contributes to our overall vision for a Fairer Westminster. Hear from the Leader of the Council (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=8dfa86ba77&e=7e37558eca) , Cllr Adam Hug and Liz Hillyard, Headteacher of Tachbrook Nursery about the positive impact of this programme.

TRULY AFFORDABLE HOUSING: Cllr Hug, spoke to Channel 4 about how truly affordable council housing that local people can afford is at the heart of what we do for a Fairer Westminster (https://westminster.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a50c8b0dd980669ef713b4cca&id=bf10eb7a4d&e=7e37558eca) . We have built 112 new affordable homes with 77 homes at council social rent levels and 35 homes at London Living Rent, providing affordable accommodation for those on lower incomes.
